Rooms are decent. The food however is atrocious at best. I’ve stayed at plenty of camps up here for over a decade but all Civeo camps are the only that have consistently gotten worse with food selection and quality. Poorly prepared, highly processed, EXTREMELY ECONOMIC selection of food. It is very obvious they cut every penny possible at the expense of their guests diet.
This was a premier camp 10 years ago. Unfortunately the place has really gone down hill. I've brought to the staff's attention of black mold on the ceiling in several spots, but unfortunately nothing has been done to rectify this. The main hallway the whole length smells like a sewage line has broken bellow the floor, gross!! Checking into camp from work, due to the security hut the traffic is backed all the way down the road preventing on coming traffic to travel by. Be prepared to be stuck on a bus at least a half hour waiting to get in. I agree with another on the food being similar to CNRL as this is definitely true. Rooms cleaned maybe once every 5 days or so. I asked front desk what the room cleaning schedule is, the response oh... every 3 or 4 days. No definitive answer. Walls are paper thin I hear EVERYTHING my neighbor does.
I stayed at Noralta in Fort McMurray and loved every minute of it. I was working night shift so I never experienced any line ups in the dining room. Very clean place set up to host many but still have a small feeling. Staff was friendly and always willing to help you no matter what they were doing. I talked to the kitchen hands any time cups were low, milk, water... and was always addressed in minutes. Even had a choc milk delivered when it was topped up! I look forward to coming back to this camp. Would be happy to stay again. Noralta is setting a new standard
I walked into my room toilet wasn't cleaned, so I can imagine what else wasn't cleaned, the kitchen is a pig pen, everyone comes in with their work cloths, hats, and serve yourself. It was great when the Union was running the camps. Now their are no standards, you can tell security isn't trained. You have to pay for better internet who ever heard of that, companies are paying top dollar for these rooms. I noticed all the local guides gave five stars! not hard to tell what's going on there. LMAO
I stayed in the Buffalo Lodge. I can't believe they don't have trays in the dining rooms at Noralta, that is absolutely ridiculous. They don't give water bottles away to the residents. If you plan on taking drinking water to work, you have to buy bottles so you can fill your own. Food is yuk, and the selection for making lunches is almost non existent. Buffalo lodge is old and the jack n jill rooms are terrible. There is no sound barrier for the bathrooms and if someone is taking a deuce, it sounds like the person is sitting right next to ya. I stayed there once and I will never go back. Pros: The staff are nice and the lounge is great.
Its old. Food is on a 3 week cycle. Poor selection of food for lunch. Can't pack food from the hot line. 2 washers and 2 dryers for each 40 rooms to share. Security often oversteps their authority and watches you like a hawk. Its expensive. 150 or so for a night with little to offer but unlimited food.
Clean is the best thing you can say about this place . Food quality has dropped considerably. Used to have good cooks. These days you can't even get a steak cooked right. Starting to remind me of MLV kitchen.
The food in Buffalo is not very good, the lunch selection is embarrassing and way too spaced out! I thought I was in luck to be in a room next to the furnace room but I could still here the room on the other side of the furnace room loud and clear! Jack and Jill bathrooms?! Because everyone loves listening to someone else take a dump at 2am! Paper thin walls. I didn't know they made extra small single beds! And the pillows are like sleeping on a cloud, full of air offering zero support! At least it's only one storey "not listening to everyone with zero decency tromping around like wild animals". The staff can be decent. Oh and the jack and Jill bathroom must be air conditioned year round, because middle of January and I was shivering when I got out of the shower to dry off. They now offer upgradeable WiFi that you can pay for which is all right I guess? As well as the usually spotty WiFi for free. Towels included... yay. Oh and if " like me" you can't sleep with even a tiny bit of visible light in the room bring some electrical tape. Also would suggest bringing a power bar if you have a few things to plug in on the desk "which is also minuscule". There is now no secure place to store your belongings in your room when you leave for the day so don't bring anything that you would normally lock up. Another thing to bring is abundant patience. Remember, the staff is likely making less then you and they are only doing a job to feed the family!
Didn't sleep very well all night. Then getting woken up by neighbor at 3:30 using the washroom sucks, why at any time would I want to listen to someone taking a dump..... nice.... should never have to share a washroom with anyone it's a given. Can't wait to go walk to my truck in a foot of sloppy soup nice!
Well for starters my company had me checked in for a 3 week period which has been the norm since March. 5 days into my rotation i go into my room to discover all of my belongings to be missing, only to find out the house keepers decided to check me out without my or the companies consent. They have no clue where my things are AND no record of who cleaned the room or checked me out. Who runs this kind of unprofessional business? ALSO the food is absolutely horrible, the lunches are always the same and not one person knows how to cook an egg! I wouldn't recommend this facility to my worst enemy! Do yourself a favor and boycott this dilapidated excuse of a "camp".
