Great place for fish and chips. It's a lot better than the higher end restaurants. We enjoyed our chips and fish. Big portions and fresh.Food: 4/5
We've picked up fish from here before and it was fine, picked up some today and we were really disappointed.I don't know if there are new owners, but they should be embarrassed claiming the Newfoundland name. It's so poorly packed for take out, literally just jammed in a small chip container, shoved in a paper bag and placed on the top of a box for support. By the time we got home 10 minutes later, it was stone cold. We were given one tiny tarter sauce/ packed the size of a ketchup pack each. So after one bite there was no more tarter sauce and only dry fish. Three 1 piece dinners, 3 Cole slaws, 2 drinks...$50+ , not worth the money. We won't be back, one of the worst samplings of fish I've ever had.
My husband won a gift certificate to eat here from Giant FM so we gave them a shot. They were relatively close to home so there was no real reason for them to be soggy or cold but they were and the inside of the fish was not cooked properly.
I must say i have heard great things about this place...but i was rather dissappointed when we tried them friday...fries were nasty, hard and grease soaked...fish was a good size, but the batter was tasteless..the pre packets of tartar sauce were disgusting...sorry to say i would not recommend them at all, and felt i could do better for the $47 we spent...first and last time customer
Great fish and chips spot in Welland. Fish was light and well cooked, no excess heavy batter, fries were great and staff was friendly. If your in the area and craving fish and chips this is a great spot.
Chips are great. The fish was bland and relies heavily on the sauces. Fortunately they give you a lot of sauces, even when you say no thanks. Coleslaw was very small, not worth the 1.60 comparatively to the rest of the portions. Poutine is great value. Service is fast. Delivery drivers take their time, food didn't arrive hot, only lukewarm and was not worth the 8 dollar fee.
Excellent portion sizes, great prices, missing one star due to greasiness of the fish, but otherwise great place to go! Friendly staff as well, and they give a lot of tartar sauce if that's what you're after. If you're planning to go on a Friday night, go early or call ahead. The set up they had for covid was very efficient, kept people distanced but kept the area flowing. Recommend this place for sure.
Underwhelmed & Unimpressed. Tried to make an order for pickup, was told "just come in and order". Took about 10 minutes for my order to be fulfilled which isn't bad, but I was still wanting to order ahead so as to not have had to wait. Just about 50.00 for a family of 3. Which is fine, if it's good. And while the portions were decent, I can't say it tastes good or bad. It tasted like nothing. The fish which was like 5/6 batter and the fries both had zero flavor. I may as well have been drinking a bottle of crunchy vegetable oil because that's what it was like. And each 2 piece dinner had only 1 packet of tartar, and there were no lemons. Also, it wasn't like 2 nice olbig pieces of fish, each meal was like 6 or 7 tiny pieces of fish. Definitely not what I was expecting. And I won't come here again. This is not the place it used to be. Do yourself a favor and instead of coming here just soak some pieces cardboard in some oil and know that you are not only saving money but still enjoying more flavor than that of the fish at Newfoundland's Own.
Will it was my first time to visit, heard the food was great there...I am a Newfie and will NEVER go back there again, the fish was tasteless and soggy, to much batter...disappointed customer.....
It's great!! I haven't tasted fish this good since the 90's Idea fish and chips which was located beside The Welland Tribune before it burned down
