We stopped by last Friday evening, just before closing, and still had plenty of time to wander through the Tsimshian carvings and the totem pole gallery without feeling rushed. The staff member at the front desk gave us a quick rundown of what not to miss and even pointed out a small argillite carving display we would have walked right past otherwise. Parking right along the waterfront was easy, and the view of the harbor from the museum steps was a nice bonus after we finished inside. It is a small museum but packed with good stuff, and we left wishing we had budgeted more time for it.
Beautiful exhibits, and lots of info about the people who have been here since time immemorial. Lots to read about and look at, and the gift shop has some beautiful art and beadwork
Nice museum primarily dedicated to First Nations history. Larger than it appears as you enter. $9 CAD for adults.
Fascinating place telling the history of Prince Rupert and the indigenous people of this area. Through displays and narratives you get a good idea of the people of this area and their struggles for survival. Great native art and sculptures tell their stories and you get an impression of the meaning behind the totems and sculptures.
Great museum, also good value gift shop. Purchased a 1st nation t-shirt here for $25 where same brand elsewhere has been up to $45 in more touristy towns. Really loved this contempory bowl on display by Dempsey Bob.
