A hidden gem in the area. Who would ever imagine getting close to a cold war era submarine, not to mention getting into one? The tour was extremely well conducted by a volunteer, who shared a lot of fun facts and fascinating stories. The internal space is cramped as a sub should be, but well maintained and ventilated. Just watch your head if you're tall. Give it a visit, it is worth the drive and you won't be disappointed. Advance booking is strongly encouraged, as they only run group of 5 tours every half an hour due to COVID.
Total surprise to me to learn that the local military museum had a Cold War submarine that you could take a tour through. Apparently, the museum went to buy a tank one day, and ended up with a submarine! Very knowledgeable and friendly guide, fascinating tour. Unfortunately they were filming a movie while I was there, so we were only allowed to see the forward part of the boat. Obviously I must come back some day.
We toured the Ojibway yesterday and we were very impressed. The submarine is nearly complete as it was when it was in service. The tour was over 1 hour and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
Our visit to the HMCS OJIBWE submarine in Port Burwell, Ontario was a fascinating experience for my family. We were amazed by the compact layout and advanced technology of the submarine, and gained insights into its history and role in Canada's naval heritage. Meeting veteran submariner Fred and learning about their experiences added a personal touch to our visit. The museum's efforts Karina - our guide to educate visitors about maritime history were commendable, with interactive displays and knowledgeable staff. It was a memorable and inspiring experience that left a lasting impression on our family.
Had an amazing tour here this past weekend. The volunteer tour leader was fantastically knowledgeable and was full of stories of the vessel's use in the days of the cold war. Less of a museum and more of an untouched piece of history. Very few changes have been made and photography is allowed in several parts of the sub. I spent an hour and a half going through it with a decent sized group and there was plenty to see. Every question was thoroughly answered. A great experience overall and highly recommended!
Fantastic tour and definitely I recommend everyone take this tour. you don't have many chances that allow you go inside a submarine. Our tour guide is a very nice man and provide so much information about the submarine. Thank you for this unforgettable tour!
HMCS Ojibwa is located at Port Burwell on Lake Erie. She is of Oberon Class and is a Cold War Era Sub. The Tours are first rate and take you from Stem to Stern aboard her. Well worth a visit, and some nice places in the area to have a meal and a pint. Definitely makes a great day trip! Go check Her out, you will be glad you did. P.S.: She now has a new coat of paint!
Had a fantastic time touring the museum, learning so many new facts, and enjoying the small group sizes due to the pandemic. Forgot to give a review, as we came last November- but just saw a few pictures that brought back some great memories! Thanks again to our very knowledgeable tour guide!
What a cool find in Port Burwell! This is a really really REALLY awesome museum, worth the long trip for the kids and adults to experience and learn about this part of Canadian history. The whole family had so much fun just taking it all in, amazed at the technology and the people who sailed it. Drove from Long Point to this place and have to say the drive was great as well! Winding roads and rolling terrain, seeing wind farms and glimpses of Lake Erie were a nice change from high speed highways.
Came here and didn't know what to expect! I have never been in a submarine before. This was amazing! It was huge! The sub itself is incredibly interesting and the owners are very knowledgable. I think everyone should check out a submarine once! It was super cool!
