Another Oregon Treasure. Why don't we have parks like this all over the state? The trees here are what originally covered the valley, and can you imagine if they were still around? I've been here 4-5 times, and I love the hike up the mountain as well as the leisurely stroll through the flatter areas. A few people had dogs without leashes, which is unfortunate. I get that you love your animals, but the rules are here to protect your dog as well as protect this sacred space. Cougars can be seen here occasionally. Hike to the top and you can see Sisters/Bachelor to the East, a real treat. Sucks that car noise washes over the immaculate beauty of the area. Cars: Dehumanizing.

Rating:. Just OK. We (4 adults + 9 year old large-sized dog) got there at 1pm and took trail 1 to 3 to 4 (4 was shaded) to 1 up to the Summit then 1 all the way back down. Level of difficulty:. Moderate to Hard, as it is very straight-up (as opposed to gradual) hiking in many places, very rocky (although path is plenty wide and not dangerous), and with very little shaded relief as you trek upwards. (Felt sorry for our dog's paws because of the abundance of loose rocks on the whole trail) Bring lots of water. We probably would've enjoyed this more if we started earlier in the morning. Plus, our family prefers shadier paths and more switch back type trails to the tops of lookouts. We hiked Mary's Peak the day before and it was MUCH more rewarding!!!

Wonderful refuge. Crowds of people to navigate on weekends and holidays. Fee parking ($4). Beautiful views that are well worth it.

The Arboretum is one of my favorite places in Eugene. Recently went there for the mushroom festival and had a wonderful time.

Mt Pisgah and Howard Buford Recreation Area are beautiful places to walk, hike, or run. Open meadows, forested hillsides, and amazing views of the valley.
