simple but so good! clean and flavourful broth, chewy udon.. very good size in portion. the spicy tan tan was tasty too, everything was very well-balanced. we really liked the tempura, wished we’d saved some room for the inari sushi - looked so good! would definitely be back to try the cold noodles
Specialized in authentic Japanese udon, we really wanted to try the place and we were very happy that we did. The place is cozy and feels warm. It does get busy so you might have to wait after leaving a phone number to reach as inside waiting isn’t allowed. Food was excellent, something you would get from real Japan though not something unique. Price is reasonable and service was excellent. We will definitely return to try other dishes.
My sister has been wanting to try this place for a while so we decided to go after a long day. Right off the bat, we loved the atmosphere of the place. It was very bright, homey feeling, and has an open concept. The food was DELICIOUS and worth every penny. Will definitely be coming back here with my partner because she has been wanting to try it as well. :
Modest yet Delicious! My partner and I went for lunch and we left full and happy. Firstly, the SERVICE was very polite and attentive. It looked like there was one server running all the food and taking orders but occasionally a chef/cook would deliver the food with a big and warm smile. It seemed like she took pride in her food. The FOOD itself was awesome! I had the Niku Tofu with the thin-fried tofu, the sweetness of the tofu was a delicious contrast to the juicy beef-belly that came with it. My partner also enjoyed hers. We both noticed how clean the broth was, normally you'll see oil on top of the broth but this had hardly any! You could say that PRICES were higher than average but this is Vancouver and prices are going up everyone. This was not a big surprise. In my opinion, the price was worth it. If you want a lower cost for your meal, then you can go to many other locations. The LOCATION seemed like a great spot for folks near the PNE but it felt a little out of the way from most of the city. This might be a pro if you want to go a little farther away from the rest of the noisy restaurants or a con if it's too far for you. I would have preferred a little more central but it's fine. Plenty of on-street parking. I found the ATMOSPHERE to be very modest, clean, and tidy. I enjoyed that. It wasn't overwhelming in noise, smells, or visuals. Plus it was well lit with natural light. They knew their food was the purpose of our visit and they really delivered on that! Both my partner and I really enjoyed our quick lunch here and would recommend it to anyone craving some Udon. Vegetarian options: They had tofu options but the broth seemed to all be meat based. Parking: Good on-street parking options.
Delicious and fresh. Udon is good, noodles a bit more chewy than what I’m used to, but broth and toppings are great. Aburi is okay. Service could be a bit better. Was difficult to flag people down and they were standing around chatting a lot.
The best udon I've had outside of Japan. Choice of toppings including tempura burdock, tempura prawns, kitsune, and many others. Can also add Japanese curry into the mix for $1.50 add on, which I highly recommend. Bonus - one of the chefs looks like the main character from Squid Games.
Came here when they first opened almost 2 years ago and left disappointed with their service. Decided to give the place another try. Service was a lot efficient this time. The udon was cooked perfectly, thick and chewy in a good way. The dashi broth was light and flavorful. Not fond of the beef brisket though, a bit bland and too much fat for me. Overall I enjoyed the meal and would come back again.
Absolutely amazing udon! This is such a great restaurant, absolute must if you love soup plus noodles. They use fresh noodles and locally sourced ingredients. They have traditional udon, cold udon and specialty udon. The Niku Goboten is delicious the beef was soft and melts in your mouth, the dashi broth is perfect! The Ankake Ebi Yuzukosho was fantastic with a thick Dashi and Chicken broth, the cilantro adds a nice flavour to the spice. The Ika Tempura was light and crispy. We also had the Mochi An Kinako, the most special part was the 2 scoops of ice cream! One scoop was Hojicha and the other very special flavour was Sake, which was so delicous and it was handmade in the restaurant. This is the only strictly udon shop I know of in the lower mainland, so coming here was a must, and my only regret is that I have not been here sooner. Restaurant was quite busy during lunch hour on a week day, continuous flow of people during my stay. Definitely going to be a regular customer, worth every penny!
Very authentic Japanese udon! We ordered MazeMentaiko Udon which was very rich and also ordered Curry Udon which is an exact replica of what I had and enjoyed in Japan! The udon is very chewy/al dente which is great comparing to many other places where the udon is soft and soggy. We also ordered negi tuna and onion salmon, both were also delicious. Would definitely go back!
Wow is all I have to say!!! The Salmon Aburi is very good, a bit too much soy sauce but still yum. The udon as always is very good. Came here right at noon earlier and there was no line. Definitely one of my fav place, especially if u like udon. The udon is handmade in house, broth is very flavourful and the beef thats in there melts in your mouth. Definitely a niche restaurant as no one else has opened an udon place. Will definitely be back again.
