My wife and I decided to try this place out for Valentine's Day Dinner. We were a little worried after reading so many negative reviews about the staff being rude but we decided to try it for ourselves. The food was excellent. The staff was pleasant, patient and quite helpful, especially with the drink selection. The best part of the meal was definitely the dessert. We also liked the decor. It was a good night. We will definitely go back.
Feeling completely scammed.... I emailed MoRoCo inquiring about afternoon tea for 2 as a treat for my mom. We made our arrangements via email and when we arrived I was happy to see the table already set for tea. We did enjoy our tea- a bit small considering the $62 charge, but it was a treat. When we left I was presented with the machine to pay and prompted to tip- which I did...and was startled to see a $200 charge. Chalking it up to misreading the price a few weeks earlier I left without being given my receipt. However it bugged me all day so back at the hotel I looked up the menu... an 18.5% tip is automatically included in afternoon tea. I wasn't told this when I booked, there was no menu on the table to inform us, and the wait staff didn't say anything either. So I tipped, on top of a tip, more than 35% total. I was shocked and quickly emailed the manager who did get back to me offering free dessert for 2- not helpful as we were only in town for one night. I have tried to contact them since twice and have been ignored. Given that I was never informed about the inclusive tip and it seemed to be set up that I wouldn't have an opportunity to learn about it no menu on table, no receipt I can't help but feel hugely taken advantage of. As an avid traveller I expect to be scammed by restaurants in 3rd world countries, not my own. What a disappointment and embarrassment as a Canadian business. Do not recommend.
I've rarely experienced this bad service at any Toronto restaurant. We went for a family celebration last week over lunch. Restaurant wasn't overly busy but we made reservations for 5. The server came shortly after and was the least bit interested in greeting us properly, super rude and clearly hated her job. After ordering five meals, two of which were the same, we waited for a while to get our meals nothing fancy, just sandwiches and pasta. Once they brought out the meals, one person was missing their meal. The server said the last meal was "just coming right up" so we waited...and waited. They also messed up two other orders...One of the burgers an avocado burger was missing avocados and had eggs instead not stated on the menu and another meal came out cold. At this point we didn't say anything, just asked for avocados on the side and just started eating. After all of us had almost finished our lunch and my sister was still waiting for hers, we asked the server where it was...she still responded, it's coming right up. I asked if she forgot to put the order in and she finally admits that she put in the wrong order. The manager came to our table and I explained the issues. The server came back and apologized with a cold death stare. Once the bill comes the manager explained that they had taken off one meal from the bill and discounted the two others. Great effort on her part but then I noticed the server had added $20+ of automatic gratuity on the bill. I asked what their policy was on adding gratuity since I didn't want to tip the server...manager said it was for tables over 10 or if you ordered the tea/desserts experience. I told her neither of those applied to us so the server had added tip for herself...given the experience we had, had, she knew she wouldn't get tipped well so tried to add it on herself, thinking I wouldn't catch it. I complained again to the manager and she instantly removed it because it was unacceptable to do that. Left the restaurant super disappointed especially since we were there for a family celebration. To top it off their food wasn't great not for those prices. If you're considering a meal there, don't go! You would think that a yorkville restaurant would take extra care of the service they were offering.
Went to try their afternoon/high tea options. Please note that there is an automatic 18% service charge which they told us about upfront when we made reservations but the service was nowhere near what we expected for the automatic charge. Slow service and waitress didn't pay much attention. Food was average. Would have preferred if they gave us a choice of macaroons. Scones were freshly baked and sandwiches were average. Good tea selection and chocolates.
The worst service I've had in Toronto in years. We pre-ordered lunch for 10 people. In spite of that plus a complaint to the waiter, we didn't get our appetizer until we'd been sitting for 1 1/2 hrs! No bread. No beer available, no limes. The soup of the day was sold out by 1:30. Waiter finally offered us free champagne, but never came around for a second drink order. Required a second complaint to the manager to get our main course. Drink glasses weren't cleared. Had to ask repeatedly for water. Maybe this place is okay if you're just grabbing a chocolate, but don't eat at Morocco.
The special of the day was out of this world. Pulled pork like no other! huge thanks to the great chef! Coming back for a bridal party this weekend. Attended one before and it was good. Great space for bridals. Wish they offered a larger and more creative selection of the macs that come with your coffee. Dont get me wrong they taste great but flavors are a little dated
Pretty shop. pretty chocolates. Didn't see the "no stroller" sign on the door till after I'd left husb and baby waited outside anyway. Had I seen that I wouldn't have purchased. I get that it's a small store but come on. Its not wheelchair accessible as far as we can tell, either. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, to be honest. More to the point was the clerk's apparent inability to ring in purchases so waiting to pick my chocolates was longer than you'd reasonably want for being third in line. She seemed completely flummoxed by the register and whatever issue was going on, and only reluctantly went to get a manager. not my issue, another customers. Slow service. I had heard great things about this place otherwise, so I am quite disappointed. I don't get the snooty-service deal, because there's plenty of great places in this city to buy chocolate without a side of hassle with it.
I had organized a private party room for approx. 20 people to celebrate my birthday on Saturday October 17th. I was not very impressed with the food or the room set up for the occasion that my boyfriend and friend organized and paid a lot of money for. I'll start by saying that I've visited Moroco at least 2 times in the last 3 years and loved the mood of the restaurant as well as the food. I've always been thoroughly impressed with the presentation and the quality of the desserts in particular. For these reasons I thought of your restaurant when I was looking for a location to have a party. I expected an elegant dessert meal with delicious chocolate and fun sharing experience. Having the private room was a great bonus. Upon arrival to the restaurant at approximately 9:15pm we were guided to the party room where we found a number of tables haphazardly scattered around the room loosely forming a U-shape. There was no place setting, no cutlery no napkins or glasses of any kind. The tables were completely bare and uninspiring. The room looked disheveled and seemed like you were unprepared for our arrival. I will add that the restaurant itself was not very busy, so it's not as if your staff were at capacity serving other diners and didn't have time to arrange table settings. After some time we decided to push the tables together ourselves to form a large rectangle so that food could easily be shared among 15-20 guests. We pre-ordered 4 chocolate fondues and 3 s'more platters to share with the group. The fondue platters arrived and I was not impressed to find only a few banana slices in the way of fruit. When I have previously visited your restaurant and ordered the same dish there was a lot more fresh fruit - Strawberries, pineapple and banana. When I think of a chocolate fondue platter I do expect some fruit, especially at the price you charge. I was very disappointed to find stale "cream puffs" without any cream in place of the fruit. Next, the s'mores arrived - 3 flame canisters, one plate of crackers, one plate of marshmallows and one plate of sliced chocolate. I don't understand why the staff would serve only one plate of each instead of dividing the food among multiple plates and distributing them around the table so everyone can have some. It was very difficult to assemble the s'mores when the chocolate was 3 tables over and out of reach. The presentation was awful and did not look appealing. Again, when I have previously ordered this item from the menu I was impressed and loved the presentation. I remember it felt very special and unique. This time, I had the complete opposite experience. My guests complained about the table set up and the lack of fruit for the fondue. I was extremely embarrassed because I had previously told my friends about how amazing the restaurant and food was and how excited I was to share the experience with them. In conclusion, I think you as a restaurant missed a great opportunity to wow a lot of people with your food and the experience your restaurant could have offered. Many of my guests could have been return customers but sadly for you I don't think they will be returning for another visit. I too will not be coming back to your restaurant because I think the quality has significantly decreased and the original draw of the restaurant has been lost. I am telling you this because perhaps you are unaware of the experience you are giving your customers who come in large groups. You seem to promote that line of business quite a lot and I think there is room for improvement. I do want to add that the male server who served us was nice and polite but the lady who helped him scowled the entire time and appeared to hate her job. We paid a lot of money to come to your restaurant and I really expected more. I also want to add that I contact the restaurant with my complaint before posting this here and have not heard a peep from them.
Chocolate fondue made for a special valentine's brunch. Both, greeter and waiter made us feel like we are welcome here while the atmosphere was very laid back as it was Sunday afternoon. Tea selection is pretty good, along with the presentation.
Complete disappointment and lack of customer service. Made a booking for afternoon tea through their online booking system over a month ago, even received an online reminder the day before and tried to call the restaurant to confirm our booking and gluten free requirements. Made full arrangements to have kids taken care of, as this was booked on a pa day, and we were there to celebrate a retirement. To our dismay the hours for afternoon tea were change and we were SOL. No notice given that the hours were changed, and no follow up or personal call letting us know the hours had changed. Completely inconvenienced and embarrassed. Called again to talk to manager Monica only to be told that their online booking provider was to notify me of their hours changing and took zero responsibility for their lack of competence. Said she couldn't do anything for us and wasn't able to notify us in advance as all bookings were lost once they made the change to their hours. Who in the world pays for a service like that? I Asked what they could do to make it right and was told nothing unless she followed up with the owner. Didn't bother to taking my number or offer to call me back, but just said it was not their fault but their online booking provider. Just another high priced Yorkville location who thinks by right they can treat customers terribly and stay in business.
