We came in for a girl scout event yesterday and were pleased with how pleasant the staff was and how clean the facility is. The event took place for about an hour and the staff member leading the event was very informative. There are a multitude of options for the kids to learn about local wildlife and it appears it is geared towards older age groups.
Great museum with lots of information about a large collection of animal specimens, glacial lake Missoula, and ways to engage with nature. There is a replica of SUE’s skull, too!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Love Montana?! Well then, don't underestimate this small gem! Great place to spend an hour or so... and stay connected via their magazine and website after you're back home! Lots of lifelike taxidermy exhibits including bears, birds and small mammals of Montana. There is a "fake" life size TRex, too! The most fascinating exhibit, however, visually relays the details on the Ice Age Floods that carved current landscapes of the upper U.S. northwest states! And did you know there is a National Ice Age Floods Trail that you can drive? Go. Don't underestimate this small gem.
Although it was after hours when I visited with my family I was impressed with the huge mural outside that I posted a picture of. The grounds outside were kept very nice and we felt like we were more than welcome. We are planning our next trip during business hours.
Great for kids when you have time to kill. Need some more interactive things though.
This place is wonderful. I was in the area visiting with friends and was invited along to bring a friend's kid to a nature class one morning on my trip. The class was literally for small children but I learned a lot about Osprey and butterflies as well as the sign language for wildfire so I feel like that's a win. The content for kids was so fun and informative and I walked out with a copy of the Field Notes book they had near the entrance which has already helped me learn about and identify some of what I've been photographing on my first ever trip to Montana. The people at the Natural History center are so kind and welcoming and if I had kids this is the exact type of place I'd want them to get to visit. It was great to browse as an adult as well. We are all able to be citizen scientists if we choose to do so and as someone that has recently reconnected with our planet after forgetting to stop and smell the flowers every once in a while, I loved that they had a definition of what a Naturalist is prominently displayed. We can all be naturalists if we just choose to slow down and observe what's going on around us and it's also very therapeutic. Highly recommended.

Great for kids and adults who love learn This is on the smaller side...but for a 3 years old was the perfect amount of space. There are a surprising amount of things in the building, you could spend a couple hours reading and looking at all the specimens. But if you have the attention of a toddler that is great too! They had a wonderful kid's room in addition to the main exhibits and a cool interactive 3-D globe. Also: so affordable. 2 adults and a toddler $6 Staff was super friendly, around if you needed them but not hovering.
