Molalla River State Park

Story

The Molalla River State Park is located in U.S. state of Oregon. It is a few miles north of Canby, and half a mile from the Canby Ferry. The park is south of the Willamette River and east of the Molalla River, at the confluence of the Pudding, Molalla and Willamette rivers. The Pudding River flows into the Molalla from the west, just before the Molalla joins the Willamette. The floodplains of these rivers provide important habitat for waterfowl, wading birds, deer, small mammals, reptiles and amphibians. A blue heron rookery, one of the largest in the Willamette Valley, is located in Molalla River State Park.

Quiet, great for off leash, parts very boggy though, as I found when suddenly in 10 inch deep mud lol. River runs through it, some great places to fly drones away from people, livestock and traffic too. Parking good, free entry, picnic tables and well signposted.

Im not really sure why this is called Molalla River park since the trails dont even go near the molalla river. Sure you have a view of the Willamette River for part of the trail but its not that great of a view. I'm also not sure why people have rated this park so high. The only thing they have is a big field thats good for running your dog. Other then that this is probably one of the worst state parks. The trail is poorly maintain with part of the loop going just across of field with no path. Also during the rainy months, which is most of the year, this field section is boggy so make sure to bring you rubber boots if you want to do the full loop. Flanking the trail is heavy scotch broom and Himalayan blackberry, which are both invasive non-native species that are to pleasant to look at. Also due to the heavy dog traffic and lack of native plant species there were no wildlife in this park. So if you are looking for a nature experience I would suggest going somewhere else. this park gets a solid F in my book.

Great large park. Boat ramp for water access. Lots of trails to walk with you dogs. Large off leash dog area. Just not fenced in.
