I've tried four Food Box companies so far, and Miss Fresh has by far been the worst customer experience. What I was expecting was a box full of delicious fresh ingredients that would help me learn how to make certain dishes from scratch. My first delivery arrived by FedEx, and I was home to receive it. The guy delivering the box was the one to bring up that the box was damaged, and he marked it down as so. I told him that it could be just external damage, so I accepted it so I could open it to unpack the ingredients. As soon as I opened it, I noticed it was wet all over inside and the recipe pages were all stuck together. I tried to carefully peel them apart so I could still use them, but a couple of pages were quite damaged, and I couldn't read the instructions for one of the meals at all, and had to refer to the website instead which was a pain to have to go back and forth. I opened the box further and saw that the pesto sauce I was sent had leaked oil all over the ingredients in the bag with it. I was able to salvage most of it, but the shallot was moldy when I used it, and I feel this was due to the moisture saturating it. The insulation in the box was also completely soaked and falling apart. I took photos of what I encountered and emailed Miss Fresh about it, about a month ago, and I still have not heard back from them about it. I ordered the box again, to give it another chance as that initial experience might have been a one off. This next box arrived intact, and I didn't immediately have any issues with it. The lettuce included in the box, for a Mexican dish I made the same day I received the box, had brown bits and slimey bits throughout about half the head of lettuce, so I ended up throwing it out as I didn't want it to bring down the quality of the dish which was quite delicious in the end. The garlic shrimp linguine dish ended up giving me horrible digestive issues the following day. One big issue I have is that on the packages of pre-sliced beef, on the label it is called "mechanically tenderized beef" as the description for the meat. I don't mind it stating on the label somewhere that it has been through that process due to regulation reasons, but I would prefer that it not be included in the main description of the product as it's quite off-putting. The quality of the beef, perhaps from going through the process, isn't very good and seems rather slimey and unappetizing. I have ended up throwing out the beef and making something else with the remaining ingredients. Today I received another box for this upcoming week, and when the FedEx delivery person arrived, they went on about how my name wasn't on the box it was and that I should make sure it is clearly on there. Then he went on to say that he was just going to leave a note and I was lucky that he knocked. I was caught offguard by all this, and didn't know what to say about it, so I just signed for the box and took it. When I opened it, at first everything seemed to have made the journey in one piece. I took out one of the bags for one of the meals and one of the small mayonnaise packages had come unsealed, and leaked mayo all over the bag and the other ingredients. I have cleaned off everything but this is another example of the frustration I have with this company, and not knowing what state I will find the box and its ingredients in, nor do I know if I will be able to use all of the ingredients. My mother also tried it at her house, and she received a Patak's Butter Chicken cooking sauce in the box for one of the meals. Other boxes have provided the fresh ingredients to help create the sauce from scratch. The whole point of a fresh food box. I will not be using this service again, and I would not recommend it as there are other food boxes out there that are more reliable, consistent, fresh ingredients, and a much better customer experience. * As of January 14, 2019 6 months later, I still have not received an email or follow-up about my issue. Not impressed.
UPDATE: Miss Fresh reached out with an updated order given their new customer service standards. All ingredients were perfect, everything was delivered in a timely manner! Very impressed with the new standards they have set and I would use the services again now! Original: Very poor experiences with ingredient quality and missing ingredients. I could not even get a refund back for the amount of damaged ingredients - instead I was only offered a future credit towards another order.
Got the box yesterday and right out of the box, the broccoli was brown all on one side see pic. I thought the kit had way too much packaging and when I came home today, it had leaked all over the floor. The portions are fairly small. We had never ordered from a meal delivery service like this and it has definitely turned us off from the idea. Customer service offered a $10 credit for the bad broccoli, but won't be ordering again. *written by my wife
Disappointed - while GoodFood and HelloFresh always deliver in the mornings, the MissFresh box did not arrive till 5.30pm. Packing of the items is average. The recipes are confused and had errors. The mushroom salmon pie recipe said 'use half oil' in one step, then 'use remaining oil' in another - and then a later step yet again said 'use remaining oil' - bewildering! While the Moroccan Kefta Bowl recipe mentioned a tomato sauce couscous and then there were no tomatoes to be seen in the ingredients or the contents of the bag nor were they mentioned in the recipe however, the photos of the dish showed a tomato sauce!. Clearly the quality control is lacking. Also the kefta kebabs weren't good - the meat had a stink. Although the portions of the mains were adequate, the size of the sides were hardly sufficient for four servings. Not happy at all. GoodFood is way ahead in this game - take note MissFresh!
How is this company successful? I got my box without a recipe sheet website doesn't make it clear you need to make a request for a physical sheet ok fine whatever. Then I go on their website before dinner to take a look at the recipe which is difficult to find and then I find out the website is under maintenance. It shows that it would take less than an hour so I waited. It's now been almost 80 minutes and I'm still waiting for the website to update so I can make my dinner.
Great Choice. Other services give you very limited choices but Miss Fresh has 12-16 to chose from. plus breakfast and smooties which no one else has. The receipes are easy to complete and the meals are great value for the dollar. Much liess than take out and healthier.
Loved the recipes! I've been using the service for about 3 months now, and I'm surprised. My wife and I are picky eaters, but each week we find a few dishes that interests us. I've had late deliveries in the past however, but I can't blame the company, once it leaves their warehouse, I'm assuming it's in the hands of the shipping companies. All in all great service, for a reasonable price.
So far we have enjoyed the variety of meals we've received. Recipes are quick & easy to follow with minimal prep. The meats seem to be good quality as well as the produce. I do wish orders could be cancelled/billed 3-4 days vs. a whole week in advance.
I love the concept! It saves a lot of time and facilitates dinners on weekdays. The dishes are tasty for the most part, healthy and the portions are decent. I also like that there's nutritional information that comes with each recipe. I do however have a bit of constructive criticism. The ingredients are a bit too packaged. Most of it is recyclable, but some of it isn't and just seems wasteful. Plastic bags or wrap I really wish they had more vegan recipes. There are so many vegan recipes out there that vegetarians would be happy to try. Why not just have vegan recipes instead? Lastly, there are regularly mistakes on the recipe cards, so you occasionally need to improvise. I ended up cancelling the service after a month or so.
Last week's box arrived on our porch smashed and leaking. Food items inside had been broken and spilled all over the rest of the ingredients, and the food was no longer cold due to the box being smashed open on the bottom and no longer insulated effectively. The bottom of the box was a puddle of liquid, raw meat, and ingredients. Somehow, Miss Fresh expects that we should still pay the majority of the cost for that week, even though the only thing that was salvageable is a can of Green Giant canned corn. We contacted the company, with pictures, and after a series of emails, Miss Fresh offered a discount of $30 off for the box we ordered. We had to fight for even that. So, at $80/week for two meals, minus the $30 rebate, and almost none of the food being usable, I have been charged $50 for a *single can of corn*. We signed up hoping there would be something wonderful about the service that explained the high pricing. Very disappointed. Two stars for the decent recipes/quality of ingredients the first week. Given this week and their customer service, however, I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. If they continue to insist on charging us $50 for a tomato sauce-covered can of corn, they don't even deserve one star. Should I even have to take the time to argue this with them?
