Mel's Diner

Was looking for a diner in this area and bumped into this place whilst visiting Kitchener. When we first went in it seemed very odd as no one came to seat us down for sometime despite seeing we are waiting. Once we were seated the service was quick. Loved the retro ambiance and was surprised how big the place was. Liked the menu which had a lot to pick from. Portions seemed like a decent size. The fish and chips looked humongous in size and the waffle with chicken also looked great.

Mel’s is a great place to go for breakfast! The staff are all friendly and the food is served quickly no matter how busy they are. Every time we have been there we have been seating quickly which is nice. Food is always hot. Never had an issue! The staff is just awesome! Great service! Busy on the weekends. Fantastic gluten-free pancakes!! The best I've ever had! Wish they had vegan gluten-free pancakes! Kids always love their breakfast & kids meals.

It was my first time here. Firstly, the ambiance of the diner is just amazing. Very retro and classic look. I absolutely loved it. I ordered french skillet and pancakes. I have to say that it was amazing. The chicken in french skillet was amazing and soo crispy. The combination of eggs, chilli, chicken and cheese was just a perfect combination and i loved it from its very first bite. Though this kind of food is different to what i am used to eating, I still very much love this variety of food and I definitely do plan on visiting again and try more of their food varieties.

One word for it is - awesome. The food is awesome, the vibe is awesome and the service is awesome too. Loved the whole old Hollywood 50s and 60s classic theme. They even made the post covid booth separation curtains turned to old Hollywood iconic scene posters. The staff makes sure that you feel warm welcome and personlizes the experience by sharing friendly chat with you. Must visit if you are visiting the neighborhood.

One of the best and finest breakfast diners i have been to!!!! Better than Sunset grill and eggsmart. Coffee is really good and friendly staff

My server was fantastic! I had the best brunch the only thing that could have made it better would have been a date to share the shake with Vegetarian options: Vegan and Gluten Free menus

Mels dinner is located at the intersection of ottawa st and westmount rd in a corner strip mall. There is lot of parking since they are located at the corner. Yes we ordered kids menu pancake and sausage along breakfast regular which was amazing accompanied with coffee. The best part is they are welcoming customer service and cleanliness. Amazing must go to place in the city

The vibe of the place! Great! Old 90s style - feels like in a movie! Food was great! Fries and the chicken was too good! 5/5 for everything! Staff is very kind!!!

We used to eat at Mel's Kitchener very regularly and enjoyed it no matter what meal we were ordering. During COVID, we supported them through picking up take-out orders. With their new reduced hours and changes in our own schedules, it hasn't been easy to get in but we finally went in for lunch today. Our server, Brianne, was lovely. Friendly, attentive, professional, kind. I ordered a BLT with the bacon extra, extra crispy "Tell them to burn it." I even said to our server. My husband ordered his old favourite at Mel's, The Elvis Burger. We both had coffee; his was hot, mine lukewarm and kind of bitter. Our food portions were very good. The bacon on the BLT was disappointing; far from crispy and I left some of the most limp pieces on the side of my plate. Half of the sandwich had just one very thick slice of tomato which I set to the side as it was all coarse, white core and not juicy red tomato. I left half of my hash browns, too; not hot and lacking flavour. My husband enjoyed his burger and it was hot but he said it lacked the flavour and that unknown "something" from Mel's of the past. Our server made the dining experience very good, with her warmth and great service. The food needs work.
