Established in 1860, James McTamney & Company is one of Canada’s oldest family-run PawnBrokers. The company has played a significant role in the early history of Toronto having financed many of the visionaries, developers and landmark projects that built Toronto from its early beginnings to the international city that it is today.

These guys are awesome! I drove 600 miles to see the biggest pawn shop in the world. Imagine my disappointment when I arrived only to find their doors closed. I did have to drive a few more miles because they moved, but they gave me the royal treatment. They pulled out the good stuff high end watches and gave me a great deal in some electronics laptops. Thanks guys! It was awesome!
I stumbled across this cute little spot in my travels looking for vintage/ secondhand jewelry and I was not disappointed. There's a wide variety of absolutely beautiful jewelry offered at amazing prices. They may be listed as a pawn shop but it's definitely at a higher caliber with estate jewelry and quality pieces. The staff is super lovely and remembered me when I came back a second time. The old school pneumatic mail tubes are also a fun touch. Always excited to come back and see what's new! Have been coming to McTamney's for years to find unique gifts and the occasional vintage find for myself. Today I was selling scrap gold broken chains and had great service there and then took a little if that money and bought myself a sweet little ring. The gemologist whose name I didn't catch and Princess made that process fun! Andrew the watch expert walked me through a repair to an antique family watch I want done and then we traded antique watch stories and pictures! What a lovely distraction from my regular day!
I came here this morning to look at a Warwick bass guitar I was considering. The salesperson, Laura, set up an amp and a stool for me. I was impressed by how knowledgeable she was about the bass' specifications and her ability to answer all of my questions in great detail. After I had played the bass for a bit and decided that I would buy it, Laura was nice enough to discount the tax. Overall, the staff were personable throughout and very helpful and I'm very happy with my purchase. 5 stars!

My partner and I went to this store looking for wedding rings. We expected to just get simple plain bands and it would take 5 minutes or so. We ended up staying an hour and walking out with an engagement ring too! The service we had was something I thought didn’t exist anymore! You know that friend all of us had in school who really liked a very particular thing like trains or butterflies and they always wanted to show you their new addition to their collection? And you really don’t know much about trains or butterflies but sure, so you go to his room and it’s like walking into a train heaven. He pulls everything out just to show you them, his eyes light up and his face shines and by the time you go home, you know so much about trains and you’re forever changed. Anyway, that was how the service felt like. Like that cool friend in school who had a hobby of collecting and learning the history of jewelry found his home in McTamneys. And it was so much fun to find rings that were unique and handmade! The level of detail we learned about each piece of jewelry made me feel like I could prattle on about how my engagement ring was once owned by a famous dancer named Beatrice who survived titanic and how it was handmade in France or anything - my mind can think of so many fun stories. This store and it’s people are absolutely great and my future husband and I will always talk about the fun time we had buying our rings. Thank you so much Andrew!
