I'm not ashamed to say it--without the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf, I don't think my family and I would have gotten through some tough times. Anyone who has a need can obtain services from the food shelf--there is no income test. They understand that even working families often need help making ends meet. The experience of using the Food Shelf, is much different than it often was in years past. You don't just show up and pick up a box or bag of miscellaneous items. You are moved through their small warehouse-like shopping area, and are asked to make selections from the available products that they have. The amount you may take is dictated by your family size. This way, you're sure to get only food items that will be used and appreciated by you and your family. The staff treat you with dignity and respect, and make it an overall pleasant experience. To get food assistance, call or check their website for their current hours. They have daytime hours, but are also open one or two evenings each week. When you arrive, be sure to have your ID and a piece of mail that shows your current address. Family units May utilize the Food Shelf once per month for a primary visit, but may also make weekly visits to pick up produce and bread.

You expect the food to be a little outdated... you don't expect to try and make your family homemade mac and cheese only to open the Velveeta and have it make you want to puke because of how molded and foul it smells... checked the expiration date... June 20th, 2015. That cheese expired 2 years ago!
