So much to choose from. Zatar from Palestine is one of my faves and I love the olive oil selection too. The owner Matteo makes it an enjoyable and informative visit!
My wife and I went here for the first time and were respectfully greeted at the door by the man behind the counter. After purchasing the lamb samosa which he cheekily referred to as the hamburger equivalent of MB mart. Afterward he recommended what we should do with some of the other ingredients that I had never seen or cooked with before. There are quality items in here that you will not find anywhere else in Nanaimo guaranteed. Next time I purchase a gift for someone I am going to buy one of the prearranged olive oil pack here. Also they have the best hummus and olives in town.
Matteas is a gem. He keeps a tidy store full of a spectacular selection. He is warm and charming. He deals in quality items, and you definitely get what you pay for. Do not miss out on his pistachio baklava!
Updated… This is such a great place to get hard to find authentic Mediterranean products; olives, samosa, tzatziki, baklava, Turkish delight, olive oil, coffee, teas…so much more. The owner is welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We even do our Christmas shopping here for those specialty items to include in the parcels we send to away-friends and family. It’s been 3 years since my last review and I STILL highly recommend this place. 3 Years ago: Wonderful! It’s a great new restaurant-bakery-grocery store featuring “Mediterranean” food, baked goods, snacks, and coffee. We were treated warmly upon entering with the owner offering us each a piece of authentic Turkish Delight. I promptly bought more to send out as Christmas gifts. There’s so much here on offer in this tiny space that is very nicely decorated in Middle Eastern decor. I highly recommend this place. We will return often.
It is difficult to find a place with great Mediterranean food in a city dominated by pizza, sushi and burgers, but I did!!! Tucked into the corner of a residential building on Stewart is this welcoming little deli, decorated with bouquets of flowers and a sheltered patio. Once inside you’re welcomed by the most incredible selection of imported oils, olives, Turkish Delight and endless varieties of spices. The deli counter calls you over with scent of homemade Babaganoush, Falafel, the creamiest sheep’s milk feta you’ve ever tasted and multiple choices of incredible Baklava. It’s impossible to leave without anything in your hands. It’s all made by the owner himself, who puts a lot of love and pride into his food. One taste of his Saffron Chicken Rice Cake will have you hooked. It melts in your mouth with such a subtle lingering flavour, you have no choice but to just take your time and appreciate this artful cuisine. Lastly, don’t leave without some tzatziki and babaganoush. It’s the closest you’ll get to tasting heaven before you get there.
Fresh made spanakopitas and various dips, and an olive bar!! Great variety, close to the Duke Point ferry terminal. A little expensive compared to other stores, but the charm makes up for it.
What an absolute gem in Nanaimo! The owner helped me choose a great olive oil and how to take care of it. He was very knowledgeable and kind. There were so many items to look at, from tasty goodies in the refrigerated displays to imported pantry items you won’t find anywhere else in Nanaimo. Once you see the international items for sale here and the quality, you’ll want to skip the “Italian” aisle in your local grocery store and visit MB Mart. My only regret was that I had walked to the store and didn’t drive, which limited how much I could buy and take home!
I visited MB Mart by accident in 2021. Looking for groceries within walking distance to Stones Marine. To say this place is a gem is an understatement. I loaded up with condiments, feta, baklava, and the best deli experience imaginable. The owner is gracious, generous and kind. The added bonus was the warmth and kindness of the other customers, one of whom gave me a lift back to the marina because I had so much to carry.

The best, and freshest, Mediterranean foods in Nanaimo. It's a small deli, as well as a grocery store. Baklava and other Persian snacks are made locally.
