Story

1981 was a momentous year. Microsoft released the first IBM personal computer, NASA pioneered its first space shuttle launch, and Mary’s Fabulous Chicken & Fish first opened its doors in Howell, Michigan, initiating a legacy of iconic chicken and fish that forever changed the food landscape in Livingston County. Since those days we’ve experienced a shift in ownership, a building remodel, and menu additions, but Mary’s original recipes and preparation methods have and always will remain the same. Time and time again, lifelong customers have returned to savor the same fresh, delicious foods they enjoyed as kids, and we look forward to continuing that tradition in the community we love to serve.

HORRIBLE!! When Mary's first re-opened under the new ownership, it was amazing. I don't know what happened. The last five times I've gone there I have been thoroughly disappointed. I kept coming back hoping it was just a fluke, or maybe due to new staff or something. Turns out, it seems like quality is just not a priority anymore. The last time I ordered a chicken dinner, the chicken was under-cooked to where I could see pink in the breasts. Tonight we decided to give it one more chance and what did we get? Chicken tenders with virtually no breading on them, onion rings you could break your teeth on and there were only 7 of them in the half order to boot! before the last visit, there were about 3 visits prior to that and with each order the chicken was dried out and horrible. I used to love Mary's..... but last week we did something we NEVER used to do and we ordered from KFC. I am thoroughly disappointed in the quality here. Until something changes, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I wouldn't normally be so harsh, but after 5-6 visits ending in disappointment, I feel this is fair. I allowed time for the problem to be fixed. I'm having grilled cheese tonight.

Just ordered carry out today and was not impressed at all! Chicken was meh, tasted like any other fried chicken, nothing special. The "sides" came in styrofoam cups slightly bigger than Dixie cups and tasted like instant mashed potatoes and gravy and store bought dinner rolls. The order also took 45 minutes to be made, which is ridiculous for the poor quality of food we got. Price was also outrageous for such tiny portions ($3 to add on a Dixie cup side of macaroni and cheese?! Come on). I have always heard such good things about this place but now that I've tried it I will never return. The only positive is that the jalapeno poppers were decent.

Wow, where do I start. I should have went with my first impression which was not to go there. I called the restaurant number and it rang to voice mail. The only way to order ahead of time is to order online. I wan't confident with that. I go in the restaurant to order. there was only one guy behind the counter. It smelled of grease. I placed an order to 2 with a few extras, like fried pickles an mushrooms, the bill came up to $38. WOW. I waited 15 maybe 20 minutes. I got three boxes with lots of grease on the bottom of each box. The broasted chicken tasted decent, the fish (cod) was just ok, almost over-cooked. The mushrooms had a weird taste to it, almost as if the oil was used to cook a bunch of different things, almost metallic in taste after eating a few. My overall impression is that I will never go back. Today my wife is sick with food poisoning, so I am done with Mary's fabulously overpriced chicken and overcooked fish.

We had heard great things about this place over the years but never got around to actually going there. Well recently we checked it out and it was outstanding! The fried chicken and the fried cod is the best I've ever had in my entire life. The chicken had the perfect seasoning and was juicy and had a plentiful amount of meat. The cod had this delicious golden buttery crispiness. They actually don't drop the fish into the fryer until you arrive to ensure your fish does not get soggy in case you get delayed on the way in. We loved it so much that 3 days later we went back for more. We definitely plan on sharing it with family in the area and agreed it should be the catered food for our next party. The staff is also very friendly and courteous. You have to check this place out! It's one of our new favorite places to eat!

Always quality food. This particular trip there was only one employee and he was working extra hard. Worth the wait.
