Apparently there are many locations of this restaurant. But this specific one is awesome. There isn’t a huge menu which is always a good thing for a few reason but the main one is that they focus on the quality of the items that they do have. Which is even better for us. There curry is nice, it’s not too flavorful which is good but if you like more of a heat to curry than you can always add black pepper. But the reason why you are here is because of the ramen and for that. Well this place has a delicious RAMEN!! it’s a must try!!
When you miss Asian food, this is the place to go! The ramen is not too heavy as ramen usually would. Spacious and clean environment. Also had their cha-shu Gohan take-out one day - it’s tasty even as take-out. Really enjoyed it.
Clean restaurant with quick service. The restaurant specializes in ramen but also have other Japanese appetizers and mains curry. Ramen prices range from $14 to $18 on average. There are four tables that seat two and look to be a great place to dine alone. I ordered the UBB Kara-Shibi $18. The broth was flavourful, the noodle was bouncy, and there was some spice to it. Not super impressed with the meat though. Also ordered the Cha Shu Gohan $8 which was a small bowl with rice and pork. Very tasty and worth it for someone who isn’t overly hungry.
Very nice very clean very spacious! One of the fasted places I have ever been served. Stopped by alone to grab a quick lunch and I was in and out in less than half an hour. Very yummy ramen, noodle texture was great, I Recommend adding the fried garlic!
Pleasantly no wait for a Friday dinner time. Fast service to get us seated and ordered, and the food came out decently fast as well. The noodles were a bit harder than normal and the overall bowl wasn’t as impeccable as the other Marutama locations. Nonetheless, really solid meal with rich broth and perfectly seasoned tamago
Seriously love this place. Not crowded, open space, clean super friendly staff and thoughtful!, And of course, delicious food. My go to are cha-shu tamago ramen with extra noodles. It's not as heavy as you would find other ramen but that just makes it an easy non guilty regular place to eat! The UBB series is much more rich and fatty if you prefer it. It comes with a scoop or ride to soak up all the fatty goodness. Seriously, you'll see fat floating in the soap! There could be line ups during the weekend, but the weekdays are clear! Atmosphere is so comfortable, spacious and has AC during the hot summer. Highly recommend - best ramen place in the area! Kid-friendliness: High chair available. Kids cutlery and serving ware available Ikea ones
After 4 months, trying the Aka ramen. Forgot to take pictures but the broth and meat were better this time. Two tiny pieces of chasu, very small but tastier. The broth wasnt bad and the egg was goey as usual. Noodles still fairly standard. As a whole it was a more solid 4/5. ----- It's good, great for Coquitlam--though I still have my one true favourite out in Vancouver. I'll be back to try the Aka ramen. Tl;dr Flavour - 4/5 Egg - 5/5 Noodles - 3/5 Cha Su - 3/5 Soup - good for the noodles, but I didn't empty my bowl. Service - quick and good, even through soft opening rush. Marutama is a solid ramen place and they're doing very well during the opening rushes. I'll get right down to the cha-su tamago ramen. I had mine mild, though in hindsight I feel like I see the appeal of spicy ramen more. The broth was flavourful and the seaweed was fantastic! Really gave it more depth and I enjoyed eating it with the noodle. It was too strong for my husbands palate though. After the initial tasting I added sesame seeds and garlic chips. The side condiments really are just to add as you like. The garlic is strong, like the kind true garlic enthusiasts go for. Sesame on most things just really appeal to me. Their eggs are true to the Marutama name, goeey and delicious. The noodles were fine, standard, not too firm or soft. They only have thin noodles though. The cha-su was good, fairly standard. Except for the fattiness of it. Perhaps it's because they were in a rush but I'm used to cha-su being more of a melt-in-your-mouth luxury. Loved the portions though. At this point the salt level was prominent but not overwhelming. This is really when I wondered about if I had gotten it spicy. I didn't add any spice from the condiment trio though. Kaedama is where I felt it was all redeemed, maybe it was the garlic chips adding to the sodium. A salty seasoning was brought along for my extra noodles, piping hot and delivered directly to my bowl. Without it the flavours of the noodle and broth were fairly separated, adding a bit helped the umami harmonize. In the end, it was a satisfying meal and the customer service was great. They kept an eye on water, were all very keen, and polite.
Tried the Tamago Ramen. The creamy chicken broth was rich, a little too salty for my taste, and flavourful- but still quite light! The cha-shu was meaty but I felt it wasn't as fatty compared to usual cha-shu, however, the egg and noodles were perfectly cooked! Overall, the ramen was yummy, but I find that there's nothing really special about Marutama Ramen that differentiates it from other ramen shops. PS. They now charge for garlic chips :
My wild guess is that Marutama has the most extensive network of ramen restaurants in the Lower Mainland. We've been to quite a few of their locations and never had any problems, and it is great that we still have one close to our home after moving to Coquitlam. It's unclear whether it's available at all locations, but their latest umami broth UBB deserves attention. It packs an unreal amount of flavour and richness as it's based on chicken, pork, fish and mushrooms. I prefer tonkotsu broth and always wished Marutama offered one, but UBB makes up for it. Give it a try!
Great ramen, great interior environment, and friendly service. They did mess up my order but perhaps it was due to how busy they were. Restaurant interior was very large and roomy. And tables were sanitized so well before we were seated.
