Totally agree with the other reviews about the fries. If you go there, seriously consider trying their smoked meat poutine. The regular size is already quite generous for 2 people. Staff was super friendly. They patiently explained their menu to us, answered our questions, and made accommodations for our requests. Seating was clean and comfortable. They seem to make everything in house. Admirably, they even have salad on their menu.
The fries are amazing - just the right amount of salt and crunch. You can get plenty of smoked meat 4oz and 8oz which is great tasting. But the food is overpriced for what you get in terms of the ingredients and cooking/meal prep complexity. I'd recommend trying this place out during the lunch time special to hit that sweet spot price point!
No need to travel to Montréal to have your smokemeat fix! I had the 4oz sandwich with good quality meat lean and pretty decent serving of fries. Friendly staff, they greet you as soon as you come in. Fast and efficient visit. Loved it!

This was absolutely the BEST smoked meat place I’ve been to in Ottawa in 15 years! The fries were simply delicious and the smoked meat makes you want more and more. The takeout special for a family is very well portioned and the overall quality of the food was top notch!!! Thank you Markies Kanata!!

Holy Smoked Meat!! Where do I start? This place is the REAL DEAL. Juicy succulent smoked meat piled high. Always so tender and melts in your mouth. Do yourself a favor, get the Combo #1 of course and ask for the poutine upgrade. Not your typical poutine, it's even better. As a restaurant owner, it's hard to please me when I go out, as I see everything that each place is doing wrong. This place certainly nails it, EACH and EVERY time. Well done folks, you are a best kept secret in Kanata. I fear that once everyone knows it's going to be too busy for me to stop in for my weekly treat. Thanks for being the best and not cutting corners! Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly, lots of open space and tables and washrooms. Parking: Ample available parking steps from the entrance - no restrictions on time or spaces Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access building and washroom, helpful courteous staff that can accommodate special requests.
Pretty good value. A few nit-picks, I grew up on Ben's, Schwartz's and the Brown Derby smoked meat in Montreal. The meat itself was good, needs to be sliced a bit thinner and slightly overlap the edge of the sandwich. The rye bread was too soft/not dense enough. A bit disappointing. The fries were very good, the dill pickle was fine. The cole slaw was of the mayo variety, it should be the vinegar type. So, vs Montreal, not as good as Schwartz's, or the more recent Moe's in Pte-Claire. My favourite was always the, sadly now defunct, Ben's downtown. destroyed by the lazy, greedy, swine in the CSN union in Quebec . But good, friendly service, good food. I'll go back.
