Just had a delicious lunch at Maria Northern Mexican Cuisine. Lime Margarita on the rocks was perfect, not too sweet. Guacamole was fresh and light. Shrimp tacos also fresh, simple but perfect. The Churos are crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Great atmosphere and music. Very clean and cool inside. Service was 10/10. Thanks Alberto.
Typically in Edmonton, most Mexican restaurants are on the smaller side, and also have a more festive interior. So upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by just how big this restaurant is! Not only is it HUGE, but it has a more contemporary and classy feel to it. This place is a real vibe! The bar is big, the Latin music is amazing, and the service is superb! Beyond the lovely server, the manager of the establishment was amazing! He was so kind and hospitable, and made you feel like you were family! To start we ordered the Beef Barbacoa Doraditos deep fried tacos, and for entrees the Birria and Barbacoa. To drink we got the Pina Colada and Lime Margarita, and of course for dessert we got the Churros! The Doraditos were super delicious and I loved the green sauce on the side, I totally recommend. The entrees came with fresh corn tortillas, the white onion and cilantro mix, a red salsa, and a hot and smokey chilli oil. Both of the entrees were fantastic, and super filling as you can ask for more tortillas. Both were super flavourful, and you could tell the meat had been slow cooked for hours. Although I usually LOVE me some birria, the barbacoa was my favourite of the two! It was so savoury and I felt like it had a deeper beef flavour. The Lime Margarita was dangerously good, and I could have gone for 1-2 more LOL. The possible star of the night were totally the Churros and the TO DIE FOR sauce on the side! The churros were crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The milky cardamon sauce left me speechless. I truly can’t emphasize just how good these were! I had such a great time at María, and I highly recommend you pay them a visit. This place would be an amazing date night spot for you and a loved one, or even a gals night out. I heard on weekends nights they have live music and that it’s giving party vibes, so I’ll definitely be back for that and to try their tacos, more drinks and a couple other desserts!
Came in for lunch on a Friday after. The restaurant was not very busy Covid but the atmosphere was very good. Would love to be here when the place is packed and it deserves to be. We shared the Beef Barbacoa Doraditos which were fresh made, crispy and served with a slaw comprising fast pickled red cabbage, carrots and jalapeños with creamy avocado on the side. A real hit with me and my companion. We could come here just for that. I had the Baja Tacos made with soft corn tortillas. The freshly made battered cod was generously topped with fresh slaw and pico de gallo. Very yummy and filling. I would have like a bit more 25% more of the excellent battered cod. My companion had the tortilla soup. A nice big bowl of shredded crisp tortillas, chicharron, fresh cheese, dry toasted peppers poblano? and crema. The broth was poured on top at our table just the way we remembered from our visits to San Miguel de Allende. Come for authentic Mexican cuisine and imagine you are somewhere warm.
For an appetizer, we ordered elotes corn on the cob dressed w mayo, macho sauce and cilantro. Really good and a must try. For the main course my sister ordered the Enchiladas Sonora red which was okay, not my favourite as it was not well balanced, too much lettuce and not enough sauce/filling. Not enough flavour also. I ordered the Parrillada Picacho which included top sirloin steak, chicken asada and chorizo served with stuffed peppers and tortillas. The chicken was the BEST CHICKEN I EVER HAD, cooked perfectly and juicy. The steak however tasted a little off. I really enjoyed the elotes and the chicken asada, will be back to try more as the service was excellent.
Walked by this place one day and thought I would give it a try. Went with a couple of girlfriends and shared some menu items. We started with the guacamole and salsa with nachos. I found the Salsa was fresh and tasty. We ordered a variety of tacos to share which all were good. The only tacos I didn't really enjoy were the shrimp tacos I just found no flavours and I didn't like the consistency of the shrimp. We also ordered the chicken and beef tacos which were great. I also like how you get variety of sides with your tacos which was nice. The service was fast and our waitress was very friendly. A nice place if your wanting to try authentic northern Mexican food.
First off, I really have to give credit to the amazing service we got throughout our time at Maria. The staff was attentive and super accommodating and patient. The atmosphere and vibe is more upscale in terms of dining which makes it a great spot for a date night. We ordered: nachos - it’s more tasty than how it looks in the pictures. Came out still warm and crispy and loaded with toppings. We finished every bite of it! enchiladas verdes - I’ve never had enchiladas before but wow was this a nice surprise. The enchiladas has chicken inside and the sauce and everything just went well together! and sonora asada tacos - made with sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly. All dishes were packed with flavours and delicious. Will definitely come back to try their other stuff! Highly recommend!!!
Enjoyed a dinner out for my wife birthday at Maria. Food was great and they had a kids menu so even the littles could find something they enjoyed. It was a super warm evening for Edmonton so we asked if we could sit outside this is after we already had a table. Alberto and staff were awesome. They took a couple tables and chairs outside for the whole family. Nice treat to enjoy great food Mexican food and Corona on a patio in Edmonton in late July.
My first time here. Place was very quiet although the music was hopping. The space was warm and inviting and the food, amazing. We started with guacamole and chips and they were on point. My dining partner had a non alcoholic strawberry margarita and l had a Twenty20 Caesar with tequila. Both drinks were stellar. My Caramelos taco was amazingly tender and flavourful and my dining partner thoroughly enjoyed her Baja Fish Tacos. Maria needs more Edmonton Love. It’s such a gem. I’d come back tomorrow if l can.
Food and service was very good but was disappointed over trying to order a bottle of wine. They have a nice wine list but ordered a bottle only to be told they were out of stock. Tried a second choice, also out of stock, third choice, same thing. Wasn’t until my fourth choice that finally they had it in stock.
Simply amazing! The time from ordering to food being served was very fast! The service was good! The food was delicious! The ambience was great! Big restaurant with ample seating! Will definitely be back!
