This restaurant has been our family favourite for years. We always order the soup dumplings Xiao Long Bao, pan fried dumplings, and Shanghai Style Pan Fried Bao. These items are so good that we consider them the best in Richmond and I would say that's a tall order. Food is always fresh and high quality. The staff is friendly and helpful. They're definitely not a fancy place but kept clean and tidy. The only complaints I have is that their hours are limited. I wish we could go there during the weekend!
Downhill. This place has gone downhill since covid. It used to have amazing pan fried dumplings and the other items were pretty good. Went recently and while the pan fried dumplings were still good not quite as good as before, the other items were bad / unacceptable. The dan dan noodles were so bland it tasted like noodles in plain hot water. Worst noodles I've ever had in my life.
All around 5-star experience! First off, the food here is amazing, the XLB and the fried dumplings especially! On top of that the woman who took my order was super friendly and had such an amazing personality. I look forward to this being my new regular spot!!! Thank you to the entire staff at Mama’s for a great meal!
It looks nice and most of the ingredients were fresh, however, I don't know what condiments they buy but their drunken chicken tastes sooooo gross, there was no hua diao alcohol flavor at all but had this chemical smell and taste. Biggest turn off. I ordered the marinated pork chop soup noodle. The msg was way too heavy on the broth. Pork chop was good but not marinated at all. Veggie and noodles were pretty good My husband is taiwanese and thought the meat sauce rice couldn't be too bad but in the end, can't stand the meat sauce as it tasted and texture felt like packaged meat sauce. The pan fried dumplings were not bad, but not something so good I would go back for. Matcha latte was okay, probably go for stream milk instead if I need a drink as the matcha powder was ... Not whisked properly and didn't melt so the powder were mostly in the foam in the end. Would not go back again and not recommended unless you work around this place and there is no good around.
Not sure what they were thinking making Dan Dan noodles into a thin watery tasteless soup?? This meal left us very disappointed. The only thing that was remotely worth our money was the Singapore noodles. They couldn’t even do the beef dumplings well. Green onion cakes were tasteless - they skimped out on the green onion. If we were dining in, we would have returned the disgusting Dan Dan noodles to the kitchen. The service was subpar as well. Please avoid this restaurant.
Take out only. Used to think they had the best pan fried soup dumplings, not anymore. Top Shanghai is definitely better. Still, pretty good.
Even from driving around the industrial area behind Ironwood Plaza, I never registered Mama's Dumpling & Coffee. Then on a bicycle trip we came across it. I guess they cater more to the surrounding businesses. I am glad I found it. For take out we ordered the Shanghai-Style Fried Pork Buns, Pork & Chinese Cabbage Dumplings, Fried Rice Noodles with Beef, and the Tofu & Vegetables Clay Pot. The fried pork buns still had some crispiness on the bottoms. Very juicy filling. The boiled dumplings were also good but less flavourful so we dipped them in some dark soy sauce and vinegar. I suggest skipping the malt vinegar they can give you and use Chinese vinegar. The rice noodles were bland and for the price I was expecting more beef. There were five pieces in total where I think there should have been double that. The Tofu was the surprise hit and ordered more just to get some vegetables in. Firm on the outside and soft on the inside, the tofu packed with flavour. There was a good amount of vegetables and the remaining sauce with delicious with the rice. We will definitely order this again when we try their other dishes. Daniel
Mama’s dumplings, Richmond Price: $15 - $20 pp Taste: 2.9 / 5 Atmosphere: NA Seating: NA Price Performance ratio: 2.9 / 5 Retention Rate: ℙ: decent customer service quick - fast food style juicy dumplings but... ℂ: lacks flavor dumpling skin tasted rubbery the meat was unnoticeable in the wrap the wrap was slightly dry only operates during the weekday : haven’t been back for awhile. I used to come here to get their dumplings but the quality has gone down hill. The dumplings used to be very flavorful. seems like restaurants have either raised their prices, or cut down on quality since covid. Inflation is real!!! Sadly, I will have to remove this from Joyee’s “favourite” list
Here are some recommendations, 1. Get more waitresses or reduce your seat numbers 2. Get your dumplings cooked in the boiling water 3. Get more flavors on your beef noodle soup It’s a typical fast food restaurant serving people working nearby warehouse. If you are a foodie and hunting for authentic Chinese dumplings and xiaolong steam bun, please go try other places. Don’t know how they above 4 stars reviews, but we definitely got tricked by reviews
Honestly, the best food I've had a very long time! This place is a true food gem in the middle of an industrial area in Richmond. I went in at around 5pm on a Saturday and the place was literally empty because we had just missed the lunch rush and it was before the dinner rush lots of people started to come in at around 6:30pm. I loved the empty restaurant though because we got special attention from Mama herself - such a sweet lady! Let me tell y'all about the food - O.M.G. Absolutely incredible I mean, just look at the pics!. We had the pan-fried egg, shrimp, and chives dumplings and they were delicious. The green beans were also absolutely out-of-this-world. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. The Shanghai noodles and the fried rice were also very good! Aside from the bomb food, the environment was clean and inviting. Even the washrooms were super nice and fancy! The only downside is that Mama's is closed on Sundays, but I suppose the staff deserve a break. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to everyone!! I can't wait to go back.
