MacEwan University is a public undergraduate university located in the downtown core of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Formerly a two-year college, in 2009, it became Alberta's sixth university. MacEwan University offers ten baccalaureate degrees, one applied degree and 43 diploma and certificate programs.
I am deeply disappointed with the restrictive policies enforced by MacEwan University regarding student access to campus facilities. As paying students, we find it unacceptable to be abruptly ejected from the premises by security personnel, especially during weekdays when access to campus resources is crucial for academic success.nnThe arbitrary 11 pm curfew imposed on students severely limits our ability to utilize campus facilities for studying, group projects, and extracurricular activities. It's disheartening to invest significant amounts of tuition fees into an institution that fails to prioritize the well-being and academic needs of its students.nnFurthermore, the manner in which security personnel enforce this curfew is intrusive. Being followed out of the building by security guards creates an unwelcoming and uncomfortable environment for students who are simply trying to make the most of their educational experience.nnIt's particularly frustrating to see other universities, such as the University of Calgary, implement more student-friendly policies. For instance, they have a building that stays open 24 hours during exam times, and regular hours extend until 2-4 am. This demonstrates that flexible access hours are feasible and beneficial for student success.nnI urge MacEwan University to reconsider its policies regarding student access to campus facilities and prioritize the needs of its student body. Implementing more flexible access hours and fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment would undoubtedly enhance the overall student experience and contribute to the university's reputation as an institution dedicated to academic excellence and student success.
Disappointing. Tried to register for courses at this University. Could not get any assistance or direction by phone, email, or chat. Attempted multiple times. Very strange that they had no interest in new students. Appeared like I was a chore, no one wanted to deal with. Simplest of questions were unable to be answered by anyone. Consistently brushed off. Very odd behaviour from a University. Obviously they have too many students already.nProspective students please be cautious and DO NOT ENROLL HERE.
Love this university; my daughter used to attend this school for its Arts program and had nothing but positive things to say about the instructors and students she encountered here!nnTo everyone thinking this is still a college please note this is an accredited university offering great standards of teaching and education to its students!
This building is amazing. It’s been around for a while and at the time it was built it was a college but now is a university. The university is attended by many students, hard to imagine but hey that’s what it is here for. I personally have not attended but I work downtown and have passed through this building many times over the years and have always enjoyed the experience.
