It's funny how life works.nnI first attended MacEwan in September 1990, when the campus looked nothing like it does today. Back then, I was taking classes in the building on 107 Street, up on the 10th floor. At that age, I thought I had life figured out. Spoiler alert, I did not.nnMost of my friends were working full-time, had money in their pockets, and were enjoying life. Meanwhile, I was a student, riding the bus, trying to stretch every dollar, and unfortunately spending more time thinking about everything except my studies. Eventually, I dropped out.nnLooking back, I can't blame my friends. The responsibility was mine. I probably had people telling me to stay in school, but if I'm being honest, I was pretty headstrong and likely wouldn't have listened anyway. Sometimes wisdom arrives a few years after it's needed.nnWhat amazes me is seeing how MacEwan has grown. Back then, I remember a relatively modest downtown building. Today, it's an incredible campus that spans multiple connected buildings and has become a major part of Edmonton's landscape.nnThankfully, MacEwan gave me a second chance.nnFrom 1996 to 1998, I returned and completed my Management Studies diploma. This time around was different. I had a car, a little more maturity, and a much better appreciation for what education could do for me. I actually enjoyed going to class. I remember arriving early enough to find free parking north of the campus in the residential area; a victory every student understands!nnI loved the architecture, especially the exposed concrete and open spaces. The library was fantastic, and I spent countless hours there studying. The computer labs became a second home as I worked my way through assignments and projects. Many evenings were spent typing papers, drinking coffee, and wondering why deadlines always seemed to arrive faster than expected.nnOne thing I will always appreciate is that MacEwan accepted credits from my earlier studies and allowed me to continue where I had left off. That opportunity helped change the direction of my life and ultimately allowed me to earn my diploma.nnAfter graduating, I transferred to Athabasca University and completed my degree, but that's a story for another review.nnYears later, while working for the federal government, I even returned to campus to take accounting and tax courses in the evenings. Most of the instructors were excellent, knowledgeable, and supportive. There was one instructor who could have benefited from a personality transplant, but considering the number of great instructors I encountered, I'll let that one slide!nnThe last class I took here was in 2014, and every time I pass through the area, I find myself reflecting on where I started and how far I've come.nnMacEwan was there when I wasn't ready, and it was still there when I finally was. For that, and for helping shape the course of my life, thank you MacEwan University.
I love MacEwan University it is a great place for education with great professors ‍, small classes and help for great assistance to students
In general one of the most unhelpful schools I have ever interacted with, not only do they take months for reply to emails regarding admissions but even finding help from this university is impossible. They only want to help you if you come in person, never respond to emails even ones that involve them offering a refund to me regarding their mistake of giving me acceptance into a program I was not eligible for.nnAfter offering me a refund they cold Turkied me and disappeared, stopped replying to emails and even the info email and registry emails state they will not help me and they will respond in rotation to my response email months ago.nnIn general I feel as though MacEwan is a diploma mill destined to take money from you anyway they can.nnOther schools I have applied to have the ability to respond within 24 hours, this school is not some prestigious university that they make it out to be.nOverall I would not recommend this school or anyone trying to invest in education for themselves, so far they have taken my money and given me nothing.
This building is amazing. It’s been around for a while and at the time it was built it was a college but now is a university. The university is attended by many students, hard to imagine but hey that’s what it is here for. I personally have not attended but I work downtown and have passed through this building many times over the years and have always enjoyed the experience.
A great campus! All of their buildings are connected so you don't have to go outside. It's well maintained.
