A fabulous evening tonight at Lyon off Whyte Ave and 103 St. Seating options included the rustic dining room and a quaint curb side patio with a view of the Fringe and Walterdale theater park areas. Our table provided a perfect view of the action in the kitchen. The wine selection was robust and the menu included appetizers, dinner and dessert selections. Our initial choice was a smokey sweet brined pork belly, slow braised on the indoor charcoal grill, then finished with a roasted garlic glaze and fresh chives. It was my first experience with pork belly and definitely will not be my last. Chef Blaine followed with an amazing BBQ glazed chicken breast. Lightly seared, it was tender and sweet. Garbonzo beans sourced from the local farmers market and an acidic balsamic sauce created a perfect balance. Slow smoked Okanogan peach slices on a bed of freshly made buttermilk cheese came next. The smoking process reduced the sweetness of the peaches creating a savory note enhanced by the topping of fresh chives. Our final course was the honey cinnamon glazed donuts. Hot and fresh, the glaze creates a delicious crust on the outside while leaving a light, airy texture inside. Thank you Chef Blaine and staff for an amazing anniversary celebration.
4.5 stars for the delicious food, warm & relaxing atmosphere, nice wine selection and all with great service. We went as a party of nine for an office dinner and had a great first experience with everyone leaving happy & full. The manager, Jodh, helped me develop a wonderful set menu which everyone enjoyed. Food & wine selections are varied, delicious and reasonably priced. Had a minor service issue but server and manager were receptive to feedback. Looking forward to our next visit!
Hubby and I went out for date night. This restaurant was one of the best we have ever been to. Gordon, our server/manager was absolutely wonderful and the food was so delicious. We shared brussel sprouts and beef cheeks, I had the sturgeon with roasted veggies and my husband had the pheasant and risotto. Our drinks were tasty as well. The presentation of the food was beautiful. The prices were exceptional! We would definitely return.
I rarely rate a restaurant, but this was the worst service I’ve ever had, and I spent the better part of a decade in the Industry. Our server was condescending and constantly rolling no her eyes at us. We ordered beers and pizza, and because we were not having wine or multiple courses, she did not bother offering us water or bread. As for the food, the pizzas were fine, but very basic and without a lot of flavour. We left feeling like we were not good enough for the server, and will never be back.
I had heard some good comments about this restaurant but never had actually tried it. I decided to finally give it a try and let me tell you, I was not disappointed! The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and they definitely take good care of you our server James was fantastic. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food although the size of the cocktails could be improved.
The GM that we met at a previous place and as we enjoyed a quick beer with some nice chats with her & her staff. We'll be back to try some dishes.
We had an excellent experience at Lyon. We started with a couple of their delicious craft cocktails. Then we had the brussels sprouts, which are to die for, and the duck drumstick, also fantastic. I had the Lilloise pizza as my main, and my wife had the baked potato ravioli. Both came as ample portions of beautifully presented food. And they were both really flavorful. The crust on the pizza was perfection, and my wife is a ravioli aficionado and was impressed. For dessert my wife had the crème brûlée, which was excellent. I had the clafoutis, which were honestly the highlight of the night. PHENOMENAL. We honestly had outstanding service. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and approachable. She was quick to check in with us, and both the drinks and food arrived relatively quickly. There was also a waiter we watched serve a very large party of rather inebriated young ladies. They were relatively respectful, but still an obvious challenge to serve. But he served with such patience and professionalism that we actually called him over to our table when his table had left to give him kudos on a job well done. I would strongly recommend checking this place out.
The facility is very small and noisy. I would not recommend this place for large groups. It is very difficult to hear your conversation, especially when its busy. The food was pretty good but they did not have large portions. They have a good variety of meats, including rabbit ! The bathrooms are in the basement with a very slippery stairwell - i would be concerned about there elderly clientele.
I took my husband here for his birthday last night. I made a reservation online 5 days previously. We were seated next to the kitchen entrance - it was noisy with the sounds of food being made and staff standing next to the table discussing stuff. There were multiple other vacant tables in the restaurant that would have been quieter - we asked to be moved and were told no. The inflexibility astonished me. We were then given the option of moving to the cafe side of the restaurant being told it was ‘beautiful’ in there - it was not. It was well, like a cafe - metal chairs and small tables. We stayed in the cafe for our meal - felt out of place having steak and salmon in a cafe. They didn’t even put a tablecloth on the table for us. Having said that the food was good - but rather expensive for what it was. A tenderloin steak was $40 plus $8 for vegetables plus $6 for potatoes as they do not provide veg and potato with their entrees - if you want something to accompany your meal - you have to buy it. They did give us 1 free dessert for my husbands birthday. It wasn’t the atmosphere I really wanted for my husbands birthday and I doubt we will be back.
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal at Lyon on New Year's Eve 2019 . It was a 5 course meal and all courses were very good and just as nice as the meal was our service. The staff were very knowledgeable and efficient but more than that they were friendly and fun. It was very good value for a very good night. Would fully recommend checking Lyon out.
