This place is amazing! The views from the top are great in the winter due to the lack of leaves being in the way. I haven’t been here in about 30 years so to see the fence in bad shape around the top is unfortunate. A person could walk right through the many gaps made by fallen trees and explore that whole top area that’s supposed to be mysteriously cut off from the general public. Every mound site we have should be both treasured and well visited/studied.
It's a peaceful historical place, a short 15 minutes hike to the top with a little steep part. Good path and steps well marked, plus beautiful benches along the way to rest and enjoy the views and magnificent oak trees.
This is a beautiful place, but like most State of Iowa natural sites, it’s in bad need of maintenance — the trail itself is decent, however. It’s a bit less than .75 mi, and definitely aerobic. There are stairs on the steepest parts, and a few benches if you need a break. Fantastic vistas late fall thru spring. Mounds are largely grown over, but still visible. Five stars for beauty, two for the condition of the place.
The steps leading up to the mounds need work. The grounds in the fenced in area were so overgrown that you really couldn't make out where the mounds were. They may not be allowed to mow since is scared ground. If so, I completely understand. Never the less, it was quite a hike uphill to reach the top. After being in car numerous hours, it was a good way to stretch our legs. Do be prepared. There are over a hundred steps to the top.
Love to take the dog here. A lot of times where the only ones there. Not a whole lot to see but a nice little hike up the bluff to the mounds. Not in the best shape or maintained at all really the mounds that is but you can imagine it in it's prime and almost feel that this was once an important place to someone.
Neat little park but the mound was in need of some serious maintenance. Very overgrown and hard to tell what you are even looking at
Very interesting history. Beautiful views from the top. We need a large group of volunteers to help the county get this overlooked gem back in shape.
The trails need attention..the fence needs repair..
