Who can use the Legal Clinic?

Anyone can call the Legal Clinic for general information. To get legal advice on your case, your problem must be one of the kinds the clinic handles, and your income and assets cannot be above a certain level. To find out if you qualify, contact the Legal Clinic.

What will happen when I contact the clinic?

When you contact the Clinic, the staff will ask for some general information about your situation. You may be given some general information the first time you call and you may be asked to call back to speak with an intake worker.

What services does the Legal Clinic offer?

The Legal Clinic offers Summary Advice, which is information provided when you call the Clinic. It may include a referral to another legal resource.

The Clinic may assist with a Brief Service, which is help with a legal process such as filling out documents or reviewing legal paperwork. You must be financially eligible to receive this service.

Representation is when the Legal Clinic provides you with a Caseworker. Before the Legal Clinic will offer you legal representation, they will check your income and assets, assign a Caseworker and a retainer will be signed.

Who staffs the Legal Clinic?

The Legal Clinic is staffed by Lawyers, Community Legal Workers and a Clinic Assistant. You will first speak with the Clinic Assistant and then you may speak with a Lawyer or Community Legal Worker, depending on your need and staff availability. Community Legal Workers are supervised by Lawyers.

How is the Legal Clinic Funded?

The Legal Clinic is funded through Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the community. For more information about LAO Clinics and services, please click here: www.legalaid.on.ca

They didn't have to go to court for me, because just talking to them, made my landlord do their job. The sad thing is, I had to do the same thing again, same result, and it looks like I'm going to have to go to them again. The landlord is giving them plenty of work tho! All I have to do is talk to them and the landlord, will do her job.
