I read through some of the not so glowing reviews of this shop. Our niece bought us here because her aunt my wife is a big tea drinker. She my wife has it all: multiple steepers, teapots and all kinds of other gadgets that I don't even know why they even make them. Anyway, some take this nice gentleman to be rude and surly, but I guess that's because they're not from the East Coast he is from Boston, Massachusetts I found the owner to be very pleasant and very interesting. Ask him a question, he gives you a very straight and direct answer with a little bit of a story. What more could you ask for? He has an excellent selection of tea's and he knows his products. We will be going back again when in town. p.s. to the owner: my wife is loving the many tea's you recommended.
The owner really knows his stuff and is clearly passionate about tea. He carries a wide variety of delicious, high-quality teas from which he will help you select exactly what you're looking for. Tea accessories pots, cups, etc. are also available for purchase and sold with the same expertise as the tea. Prices are very reasonable for what's on offer. The shop itself is beautifully decorated and clean.
We went here to find some green tea to help with my wife’s kidney issues. This gentleman certainly knows his teas. He has been there for 27 years. He may come off a little surly but is a joy to talk to.
By far the best tea shop and Salon de Thé in town. Say hi to Bożena and Tony for me. They are some of my favorite people here in Minnesota for sure. Enjoy the wide variety and ask them questions about what you should choose. They are experts at guiding you finding the best tea for each person.
There are certain places where it feels like: ah yes, I've made it, I understand what I'm talking about and I can chat at length with someone about it in detail and get what I'm looking for. This is one of those places. I'm giving it five stars because this place had what I wanted and I personally appreciated the owner's forthright nature and ability to answer all my questions efficiently. If you know what you're looking for, you're in a good spot to get some lovely quali-tea. If you're hoping to explore and sniff teas, I'd suggest going elsewhere. I'm the kind of tea drinker that volunteers at tea festivals so I can learn more about the regions, the craft, and all that other good stuff...so while I do see in other reviews that some people don't think the owner is very friendly, I personally thought he was awesome because it's clear that he knew a lot about what is in his shop. I will say that my friend, who is Very New To Tea, probably would not have survived on his own. So if you're looking for a place that's beginner-friendly, you might want to go somewhere else. But if you're looking for quality teas from someone who knows each region they're sourced from, I personally think it's always great to chat with the person who did the leg work. I picked up the golden needle red tea and a golden oolong tea from the Taiwan region, both of which are lovely and wonderful to steep multiple times. Not a bad price per ounce. I was looking for dongfang meiren tea and he was like, "Hmm, yes, we usually have that but we're out of it now...that does remind me, I need to get in touch with the suppliers, thank you for the reminder..." and it's like, nice. Supply chain is messed up right now for many reasons, so I mean, I getcha. PS For y'all expecting Service with a Smile, Customer is King, etc. etc. service -- yes, you'll probably want to go elsewhere, because I cannot imagine the proprietor dealing with that nonsense. There are certainly other places out there that will adapt to your needs.
Kindly gentleman was courteous and professional, helped us discover some new teas that were delicious - highly recommend!
As rude as the first time I walked in years ago. The problem is really that they don't listen. They think they know what you are talking about and head you off. --I'm looking for a fermented tea called.. --oh, you are looking for a pu-erh from China, we have that. --No, I'm looking for a tea made from fermented rosebay willowherb it's... --We don't have brand name teas we source all our teas directly. --Okay, this isn't a brand. It's a tea made from the leaf of rosebay willowherb that has been fermented. --Sounds like an herbal. We don't have that. How is this place still in business? Must be the mailorder where no interaction is required.
Interesting tea shop. Covid has had a great impact on this cute tea shop. They have a great selection, but you are not allowed to see or smell any teas. They do not serve tea at this time either. I decided to blindly buy 2 different kinds of rooibos for my Mom and put in her birthday bag. Hoping she likes. I will update my blind purchase as success or fail!
In my experience of La Société Du Thé, it was a quaint and warm environment to enjoy tea. The owner seems to truly enjoy what he does and he will serve you some fantastic tea and provide a wonderful venue to enjoy it. If you are respectful and show interest, you may even be able to get a story about the tea from the owner. He cares about his product and it really shows. I have not found tea of the same quality, or with such rich stories in the twin cities as i found here.
Great tea shop with knowledgeable staff. The Gyokuro and the Formosan Pouchang were excellent.
