Super great meal this was probably 5th or more time going. Drinks can be a tad high but are delicious. Tacos are all pretty great. I got Tuna and Chilango to go and now eating those for breakfast. Tuesday is half off tacos. Tuna was good but I'd prefer if they cut up the pieces of tuna but it's a small critique. We got the hot salsa and bean dip both good hot salsa was the right hot did not bring tears.
Great experience. Definitely call ahead if you can. We dinned outside by the fountain around 5:30 on Friday. We loved the Mesa Guac it was a great twist on the food. Definitely recommend the appetizers.
The ambiance and decor was really nice as well as the outdoor seating area. The wait for our food was way too long. Everything was a la carte so it became pretty pricey. The food was just okay for me.
My group dined in on a busy Taco Tuesday 4 for $10, but you cannot mix and match evening. The hostess at front warned us in advance, but we ended up waiting 45 minutes for our food to be served. Our server was forgetful one of my friends had specific requests due to certain dietary restrictions, but he was nice and made up for it by giving us queso and salsa on the house. Which brings me to my next point, La Mesa has the BEST TORTILLA CHIPS I’ve ever had!!!! I’m literally craving them as I’m writing this review. They’re thicker chips with amazing texture. The air pockets lend to an almost flaky tortilla chip, and they are seasoned well. The salsa roja also had amazing flavor development, and the queso was equally delicious. I normally don’t finish the chips at restaurants, but I devoured them at La Mesa and took the extra to-go. As for the tacos, I ordered the seared tuna. The tuna was fresh and soft, the slaw and mango pico were incredibly flavorful, and the aioli added a delectable creaminess. However, I wish they had salsas on the side like most other Mexican restaurants do. My friend ordered a side of guacamole, which was more on the chunky side, and notably spicy with the Serrano peppers. I personally prefer a smooth guacamole, but I still liked it in the end. Overall, there is a reason why this place gets so busy. The food is delicious, but be prepared to wait.
Dishes are fresh, chips are awesome... Dishes a little too spicy for me, but I am a whimp. EVERYTHING is a la cart - Everything. 4 tacos $15. Pollo Rice dish $28. Sauces $2 each, Guac was awesome, but small portion and $9Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: Yes
My wife and I went to La Mesa on 03/22. We have been to La Mesa before and have always enjoyed the food. I had the Clase Azul Margarita and my wife had the Raspberry Smoke Margarita. The drinks were excellent. The menu on the website is a little outdated, so I don’t know which guacamole we had, but it had crab and capers. The flavors are something to be experience. I like that the chips are fresh and warm. For our main meal we each had the Birria tacos with the consommé. Let me say we were just recently in Mexico City and had basically the same dish there. The Birria Tacos with the fried corn tortillas and consommé at La Mesa were far superior in flavor. My only recommendation, update the menu on the webpage.
Cozy place. We were in the summer, there were a lot of people. The food was delicious, I liked everything. Live music was played in a nearby restaurant.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: Yes
The food looked great and the staff was nice but everything I ate was just bland. I’d give them another try, however. Maybe the flavor town guy/gal was out that night. PS. In reading other reviews which I often do after posting mine to see if I was on point I am editing this one. I see numerous responses from the restaurant being, “Did you ask for a manager?”, putting the impetus of customer service onto the customer. Bad form. On second thought, based on responses to other non-perfect reviews alone - I won’t go back.
Had a large party that came at LA Mesa, the staff was nice but was underwhelmed in the effort of service. Not once was I asked if I needed anything. With the prices being high I'd expect better service. Food was greasy and for $25 a plate it should be delicious. Will not be coming back again nor will I ever recommend to anyone.Food: 2/5
NO MENU available at all!!! Phone was dead. Not one menu anyehere on premises! Management was no help. We left immediately. Very disappointed!!! Thank you for your prompt reply. The two hostesses at the front "said" they went to talk to the manager. Maybe that means they really didn't? Guess we should have asked for the manager to come up front to see us. We understand costs have gone up. NP However other restaurants/bars we've been to at least had a couple paper menus on hand for such situations. A couple quick menus off a HP printer would have been just fine. 5 cents maybe?... to bring in two more paying customers for drinks and food.
