.. ordered seafood soft tofu and bulgogi. Seafood soft tofu contains shrimp, clams, and oysters. Medium spicy is recommended. The place is narrow. As a result, you have no choice but to sit very close to people you don't know. Taste is acceptable!!
This place is a must of you're looking for full flavors of Korea. The dishes were full of flavors and service was one of the quickest of any Korean spots we've been too. Love the homey atmosphere and vibe. Will definitely be back.Food: 5/5
To be honest, I have waited for a while prior to deciding to write this review because I wanted to wait I had enough pictures. However, I could not wait anymore as the world needs to know this place, and their value does not depend on the way their food looks. First of all, it is definitely a "hole in the wall" place that you should just come, eat, and leave, as chances are others will be waiting for seating. This subsequently also means they have bomb food. Their kimchi tofu stews are probably some of the best I have had anywhere in the United States, including places in big cities like New York, Los Angeles, etc., so that says a lot. The boiling silken tofu soup, the meat / kimchi / others, and the raw egg to drop into the stew, everything was just authentically perfect to the maximum. I also love their bulgogi and bibimbap, which I have had in addition to their stew, despite the fact that I just love those two food items in general from anywhere almost. Even if I am not too much of an expert on Korean food, I have had plenty throughout childhood since I grew up around Koreans due to my hometown having a huge Korean population, so I don't think I am making an exaggerated statement here. Plus my friends who have been in Minnesota for school and such have literally said the same thing ever since they had left Minnesota for other big cities in the United States. I have not tried their ramen yet, but I have no doubt it is going to be great. Other than food itself, the place is extremely affordable, and at this age, to remain as such an economical establishment is definitely not easy, and I would love to support them in whatever way possible. Whenever my friends visit me, I ensure I bring them to Kimchi Tofu House for the food, as long as they are okay with Korean food. If you are reading this, please help support this business as well because it is truly a gem and deserves to remain such for students across campus and other citizens alike! Oh, and make sure you come earlier than later because there is not a lot of seating at all and this place can be super packed, especially on Saturdays.
Found this restaurant online and it had fairly good reviews so we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. The food was delicious! Hot and fresh. I ordered tteokbokki mediun to spicy and the silken tofu seafood stew. Loved it!! Husband ordered a lunch special which was bibimbap n pork dumpling stew. My daughter had beef ramen. Everything tasted great. The only negative for me is that it's tiny. Not much seating. It was full and crowded when we got there and it stayed that was the whole time. I sort of felt guilty to eat faster so that others would have to wait long. Staff was courteous. Bottled water comes with the meal. Overall it was a great experience! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Personally not really into Korean food, but this restaurant is just so awesome that me and my friends we kept going back! And to be honest it’s not too expensive compared to other Korean restaurants: if you go before 3pm on Monday through Thursday and get the lunch special is a GREAT deal!
It’s been a few years since I’ve been back and sad to say my experience this time is really different from the last. The soup that comes with the combo is good and they’ll include 1 shrimp, 1 clam and 1 oyster in the seafood soup. Portion was a good size so if you’re thinking if you should order the full size or not during lunch, I would suggest not to as the size is pretty much the exact same with more onion and scallions on the full size. The taste of the bulgogi was just okay, didn’t remind me of why I loved it back then. I didn’t have the kimbap but the people I was with said it had a bitter taste. This is not like a normal sit down restaurant where you’ll get unlimited water, you’ll 1 bottle per an order and appetizers don’t count. The main reason why I gave it one star is because of feeling rushed to eat and leave. I ordered take out after I got my food and I thought it was really weird not to hear them “cook” my food and within 5 minutes it was being packed and handed to me. Makes me think they don’t cook fresh unless if it’s soup? To top it off they serve their customers shin ramen if you order from the ramen items. Pretty obvious since it’s right on the kitchen counter. Street parking with limited space since there are a few other restaurants near.
Hands down the best Korean restaurant in MN. The kimchi stews are amazing and definitely the highlight of their menu. It comes out boiling hot and with a raw egg for you to crack and cook inside. The broth is delicious and comes with rice and some toppings. However my absolute favorite is the ramen!!! The noodles were so fresh and the flavors were amazing. I wasn’t going to steer away from the famous boiling stew, but I’m so glad I tried the ramen.
Stopped in on 12/23/22 for lunch with friends. Kimchi Tofu House is truly a gem of the Stadium Village area. We were greeted right when we walked in and were able to get a seat within 15 minutes. As it is a small space, there are only a few tables, but the wait is worth it. As space is cramped, it may be difficult if you have mobility concerns. The food comes quick and hot! I ordered the kimchi silken tofu stew - absolutely delicious. I highly recommend if you're looking for a good new eatery!
Waitress was kinda pushy and not very helpful. It was my first time going and while I recognized all the menu items I struggled to pick. I asked what she recommended but she just asked me well what are you feeling. Doesn't really help me decide. It's a typical deli style Korean restaurant. I was quickly seated at a small table with a bottled water. The food was hot and fresh and everything overall tasted great. I got the lunch special and it was a great deal. I almost couldn't finish it! Definitely recommend for U of M students and even if you're just in the area. Unfortunately, I got a bad stomachache later at night. I eat Korean food regularly since I'm half Korean so my stomach is definitely used to it. I loved the food but now with my stomach all queasy idk. When I compare my grandma's food to here, it's definitely on the sweeter side. I'm used to spicy pork being spicy but there's was not even spicy! I got the tofu soup in spicy and it was too spicy being it was the middle level, in my opinion. Definitely better Korean restaurants in MN.
Really great little Korean spot. Food came out fast and piping hot. My wife is Korean and vouched for the quality of the food here. Only downside was the Beef Bulgogi was very very sweet. Outside of that, all of the dishes we had were wonderful. Arrive early or plan for a short wait as there is limited indoor seating. But worth the wait!
