After one year of being there, I realized that my son's teacher wasn't really following the curriculum (?) that is supposed to be followed based on the education minister program.
In the beginning of the year she told the parents that she does everything in class and almost doesn't give homework to let the kids enjoy the family life.
Since I'm the sort of parent who respects the discipline of the teacher, I didn't discuss that and waited to see the results first. Unfortunately, I've waited too long.
What I saw is that She doesn't correct the mistakes my son keeps doing. Last May, when I asked for his portfolio, I found out that they didn't work the english writing to improve the writing skills. When asked, she told me that it is important to improve the social skills, and that a school is not only about working on academical skills. Especially because of the fact that my first language is not English, it's really important for me to have a performant support from schools' educators.
Once, she told the kids that "some of them are not born to study and that they might do plumbers". Not sure if she formulated it that way, but this is how my son heard it... I wonder if I'm sending my son to a private school to make him hear this anti-pedagogical speech.
I also heard that I wasn't the only frustrated parent because of that and more.
During classes, MOST of the time, she uses Ipads to "teach": the students have to do some exercises on apps they use. My son told me that his teacher was looking at her emails and FaceBook during the time they work on their Ipads. He noticed that, because every time he went to her desk to ask for help, he saw her doing it.
The Principal knows about all that, so maybe she tried to address these issues. I don't know since I don't go there anymore.
Recently I discovered the Fraser Schools Ranking and realized that this school has a bad ranking.
I moved my son to another school, and what he did and learned in the 2 first weeks, is more than what he did and learned in the entire previous year by Kells.
Definitely not recommend it!!!
