School for children and teens with ASD.
Giant Steps School / École À Pas de Géant, a not for profit organization, is a private special education institution, recognized in the public interest and subsidized (preschool and elementary sectors) by the Ministry of Education, Leisure and Sport of Quebec (MELS). Founded in 1981, the school welcomes students 4 to 21 years of age, French and English, presenting an autistic spectrum disorder without associated impairments. After three decades on developing its invaluable expertise and thanks to the relationship established with many school boards, the wish of the school was to share this expertise with as many as possible; hence establishing the Resource and Training Centre in 2005.
Our primary mission is to enable our autistic students to reach their full potential and to support each student’s development towards independence. Giant Steps strives to give each child a happy and normal childhood, which corresponds to the best of society’s standards. Considering the many distinctive skills and interests of people living with autism, we support them in acquiring abilities, knowledge and attitudes to help them reach their autonomy.
