Tried their assorted chicken katsu set instead of their pork this time and was very impressed with how tender the chicken was. Delicious and very cleanly fried. Did not feel too oily at all. Their salad dressings are one of my favourites, would definitely would buy a bottle if they had some on sale! Lots of parking in the square across, and sometimes in the restaurant back. They will put your name down on the waiting list and then text you when your table is ready. We didn't wait too long as we came on a weekday lunch. Will definitely visit again, and their service is also some of the best.
We came here for opening at lunch 12noon. The staff are friendly, attentive and courteous. They have a small menu which is not a bad thing at all. They focus on Katsu as the name suggests. They do it exceptionally well. We ordered the Assorted Katsu set which includes, pork loin, cheese and tiger prawn. It comes with finely shredded cabbage, rice and a variety of sauces and spices. The meal came hot and beautifully prepared. This is small space so expect to wait if you come at the peak times. I've come here every year with my son on or around my birthday, June. I highly recommend this place. Good food great staff and reasonable pricing. Itadakimas. Parking: Parking is located around the corner up a ramp Wheelchair accessibility: It is a bit tight but it is accessible
One of the best Japanese Katsudon restaurants in Richmond ~ frankly speaking I can't remember there is better one. All agemono are very well fried, crispy outside and tender inside, well done. The only regret is the pork tastes a little bit dry because lack of fat, it is not their fault, we all know in Canada you can hardly find a good hog as in Japan. They do have good business, the restaurant was almost full even in working days. Waitresses are all well trained, nice and kind, moves quickly. Oh, don't be afraid of their spicy noodle, It's not as hot as it looks and I can drink the soup without any problem.
The place is small and gets packed quite often but the food quality was very satisfying, in fact one of the best Katsu that I tasted in lower mainland. Meat was tender while fried batters were crispy. Cheese one was also very top quality. What is also the perk was unlimited cabbage salad. Waitress was attentive to fill our plate with fresh cabbage salad when we wanted more. Green tea also is served at free of cost, which adds to the experience. Overall, we couldn’t be happier with experience here at this restaurant.
Went there for Sunday lunch and we had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table. The place is smaller than expected and was super busy. Ordered the Tonkatsu Set and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! I wasn’t aware that with every set there is unlimited rice, shredded cabbage and Miso soup which blew my mind. The pork loin was super soft and so flavourful on its own. They also served hot green tea which was also bottomless. The servers were also extremely nice and would come over to ask if we needed more refills. Overall, it was a delicious lunch and an amazing experience. Would definitely come back again!
I have to say it’s a must-go if you love Japanese Katsu! Even they increased price this year, everything there still valuable for the cost! The crispy coating has great texture and taste with the pork.
Wait for about 20 minutes and be seated, quite limited seat numbers. I ordered assorted pork Katsu. The highlight is the apple onion sauce for cabbage salad. Soup and rice are decent. The katsu itself is a little bit weird in terms of the texture. It’s not like the usual katsu we’ll had but instead it’s more like the meatball texture, maybe they hit the meat many times to create this cluster texture, but not a fan of it. The crust is excellent and pretty crispy. And the shrimp katsu taste awesome as well. The tonkotsu sauce btw is too heavy for me, adding wasabi into it won’t help at all. And the sesame provided doesn’t comes with a grinder, though we have limited aroma of sesame.
I was blown away by the quality of this hidden restaurant’s katsu! I ordered the assorted tonkatsu set that came with pork, cheese, and ebi katsu! It also comes with miso soup, pickled radish and cucumber, rice, and shredded cabbage. Japanese style sets are really well done here. All of the sauces were delicious and my favourite part was getting refill after refill of shredded cabbage. I highly recommend this place for its food, atmosphere, and experience!
Saku was the original restaurant to offer tonkatsu in Vancouver, but over time and popularity...their prices have slowly hiked up to the point where you're paying $30/meal. Katsu San is where Saku was prior to the huge hype, they offer quality tonkatsu at good fair prices and what separates them apart is that apple onion cabbage dressing, man that's good! During our first visit about a year ago they did not do refills on rice, soup or cabbage, however I'm glad to say they've since changed and all items aside from the meat are refillable! Parking: Lots of parking on the rooftop!
This restaurant is great! It's the closest in terms of authenticity. I've been to Japan many times and this katsu is a common food there. Here in katsu San, it's just like the ones I ate in Japan! Highly recommended! One tip: arrived about 30 minutes before opening as there is always a line outside. But once you are seated the orders arrive fast and hot. Parking: It's located up the ramp beside katsu san Wheelchair accessibility: It's ground floor
