If you've been to White Rock and have never had Kappa, you are truly missing out. Quality food made by the sweetest Japanese couple. I've been eating here for over 10 years and it never disappoints. My favourite sushi in all of metro Vancouver. My favourites: dynamite roll, lotus root tempura, sunomono, flounder fringe and tamago nigiri. We have never ordered Kappa and not gotten the tamago, it is THE best. The operating hours are Thursday to Saturday, dinner only - make sure to plan ahead!
Really great, authentic Japanese restaurant - the kind you don't come across very often here anymore. Very solid menu at fair prices, and the quality of food is high. Relaxing ambience in the individual booths. Family-owned and operated in a renovated house... reminds me of going to my grandma's house to eat. I'd highly recommend supporting Kappa and the family who run it!
One of the best place for sushi with a good price range. Fish was fresh and the service was wonderful with great selection of menu. My favorites were the Aburi set, along with the Shabu Soup and Prawns Tempura. The restaurant is always booked. Best to make reservations way in advance or show up right before they open.
Well made sushi using high quality ingredients! Family run business with Intimidate seating. Finally made it here after friends telling me to come here for 10 years. Allow for extra time if dining in, as they are very busy with take out orders. Definitely try the agedashi tofu and the sushi !
If someone asks me how good Kappa is, I would simply tell them that it is better than Taka. The taste, the service, and the environment is GREAT. There is really nothing I can complain about. However, this is a family ran restaurant, and the owners are getting aged. They now only open 3 days a week. I can still remember the days they open 4-5 days a week. Also the food here is normally a bit pricy. Two people can easily spend 100$ here, so if you are looking for cheap sushi, then this is not the place you want to go. But if you are looking for high quality aburi/nigini sushi, then you should definitely come here. The restaurant has been opened for over 35 years in White Rock, BC, and I would say it is one of the best sushi restaurants in lower mainland. Wish the owners stay healthy.
What an amazing experience. The out side does not accurately depict what you will get inside. If you live in South Surrey or White Rock call them up and make a reservation. The service is great just a little slow, but food this good takes time so just relax and enjoy the time with family and friends. We didn't have a bad dish. Some of the best tempura I have had anywhere in Metro Vancouver.
Overview: A truly authentic Japanese dining experience, a mom and pop run Japanese eatery. They are based from Nagoya. You must take off your shoes to seat yourself to eat. Each table is sectioned off in quarters enclosed with the curtains so it feels like you are having a private dinner with your group or dinner date. Truly one of a kind of a restaurant; a must try for all. The experience is worth the price. Definitely not a place to come when you are hungry, but perfect for a fine-dining experience. Vibe: Great authentic vibe, the minute we walked in, we were welcomed by courteous staff. We truly felt like we were back in Japan. Flavour: Truly amazing flavours we haven’t had elsewhere. The prawn gyoza came in 5 at the price of $9. Each gyoza had one full prawn in tact with the tail, and was extremely flavourful wrapped in a pork filling inside. Accompanying it was a slightly sweet and tart vinegar based sauce. Chef's Assorted Sashimi $40 was definitely a smaller portion, but very freshly sourced sashimi, and the star of that order was the prawn sashimi extremely buttery and sweet. White Rock Roll was extremely flavourful, not only because it had lots of filling, but the seaweed used was of a high quality and the flavour really worked well with the filling. Also, although the roll was massive, none of the ingredients fell to pieces as you picked up a piece of the roll, and this speaks to the chef’s attention to detail. Originality: Gyozas were extraordinary, first time I’ve seen them with tails at the end, but retains moisture and juiciness. "Gyo Za" soup, you can tell it was freshly made to order, with a swirled egg added and one gyoza in the soup small portion for 1 only. Service: Extremely courteous staff, kind and thoughtful. Provided complimentary Gomae while we waited for our food. Food came out in order, with appetizers to start, and allowed time in between to allow guests to fully enjoy the experience. The mains came shortly after. Overall Experience/Star of the Show: Prawn Gyoza and Whiterock Roll.
AMAZING food. Possibly the best sushi in the lower mainland. The staff was the sweetest. Great calm, quiet environment.
Small traditional style Japanese restaurant, offers great service and a selection of fresh fish. Reservations are mandatory as there aren't a lot of seats. Counted 5 groups of people going to get in without reservations and "booked for the night" was the answer every time. Must try the aburi and a selection of the nigiri. Added bonus, dinner courses come with dessert
my favorite restaurant in Canada. must order: seared spicy tuna, gomaae, beach roll, mixed tempura, gyoza Also my favorite: beef sashimi, spicy tuna roll, karaage chicken, aburi toro
