Jimmy K H Chan DMD

We were referred by Roxanna (a lactation consultant in Port Coquitlam) for our newborn's tongue and lip tie to have a laser revision surgery. Dr. Chan's front desk staff member was courteous, friendly and helpful. Our visit to his office was excellent overall. I was very impressed with his bed-side manner and felt comfortable and at ease in his presence. He was knowledgeable, thoughtful and took time to examine our infant's mouth and describe to us what he was looking for and how the tongue and lip tie revision procedure would work. He requested we do a follow up visit 1 week after to inspect her healing wounds. The procedure went well, as did the healing, and I'm happy we followed through with Roxanna's recommendation to have it done at his office. It cost $645 in total which included the initial consult ($55) and the two revisions. His follow up visit a week later lasted less than 10 minutes and we weren't charged for it. We live in Maple Ridge and I would recommend anyone who has an infant (or child) who requires this surgery to not hesitate to travel to Dr. Chan's office to have this done. I give this man 5 stars!

Tongue tie/Frenectomy I took my 3rd child to Dr. Jimmy Chan in North Vancouver. He was recommended by my midwife group. When we got there and my son was examined, it was determined he had a stage 3 lip tie and stage 3.5-4 tongue tie. I had been previously sent information on the procedure so I knew what would happen at the office -minus the amount of pain this would cause. They don't give any local anesthetic. I did ask about this and I was told it was worse for the baby afterwards if they gave it. I trusted that this was normal and they did this because it wasn't too painful. I was wrong. My son screamed in pain and passed out from the pain and crying so hard. It was horrific for him. He was out for the next couple of hours. Once he woke up he was inconsolable. I had given him Tylenol as that was what had been recommended but it did very little. We put baby orajel on but again it didn't do much. He screamed in pain for the first 48 hours at least. I gave Tylenol every 4 hours as he could barely last until 3/3.5 hours without waking and screaming in pain. On day 7 it seemed like the Tylenol was not doing anything. He was still in such bad pain that it was keeping him awake. I emailed Dr. Chan with my concerns and he replied that I should be seeing a lactation consultant and that they would be the ones to tell us how to deal with the pain etc. I am sharing my experience as it seems like all I heard before the procedure was that it was a few minutes of pain - not bad enough to even require local anesthetic - for the long term benefits. I would never, ever make this decision in the future knowing what I know now.

My newborn was both lip and tongue tied which was causing difficulty with nursing (and sleeping, burping and colic). Dr Chan fixed both with a laser procedure. Within a few weeks, my little guy was nursing like a champ and was a completely different baby. I found Dr Chan's office very professional and informative. They sent me numerous articles to review prior to booking the procedure and made sure I was well informed before making a decision. They were great when dealing my little one and made sure we had lots of time to nurse and snuggle post procedure. I would definitely take my little guy here again!

My family and I have been coming to Dr. Chan for over 20 years so we are obviously very satisfied. They are sincere, welcoming and professional. I highly recommend Dr.Chan.
