"We are the longest continuously operating hot dog stand to have done business on Maxwell Street. Except for a short closure in 2001, when we were relocated from Maxwell Street to Union Avenue, we have been in business since 1939, with 62 years of history on Maxwell Street. Jim’s was so well-known and has so consistently served our food that we became the cornerstone of the Old Maxwell Street Market until its relocation in 1994. People still identify the Old Maxwell Street Market with the sweet smell of onions that emanated from Jim’s stand."

Our first stop on our trip to Chicago! Great counter-service place to get a great polish sausage and some fries for $6.25. The sausage had a satisfying snap to it, and it was delicious - the onions and mustard with the soft bun were the perfect compliment. My wife and I both tried the hot peppers that came with it and they were definitely hot! Neither one of us could finish one! Jim’s Original is a good deal on some very good food in what can be an expensive city.
I can see why people stand in line for this food! The best polish sausage ever!!! If you are in Chicago you absolutely must stop in. The food is hot, fresh, delicious! Large portions and a very reasonable pice. Also the staff were friendly and efficient.
Like many other reviews, this place is amazing! The Polish sausage is delicious! the mustard, the onions, the fries.. so so tasty! and I love that you get it in a doggy bag! Original street food. It seems to be very popular among locals because people kept coming and going during the time I was there.
Ubered over here, line wasn’t too long . We ordered a Polish Dog and it came with fries as well as a Pork Chop Sandwich. The Pork Chop Sandwich I didn’t really enjoy but the Polish Dog was really really good. The employee taking our order was very rude but as the comments state, this establishment is not known for customer service!
Excellent road side restaurant. Cooked right in front of you. Depending on the time, you might stand in line, but well worth the short wait. If you have the chance, highly recommend. The peppers are flame!
Worth all 7,700 steps from downtown! Dogs have a terrific “snap”, great taste, fries are perfect, service is fast and just what you would expect! A must visit!!!
Apologies for the ugly pictures but that's what they looked like out of the bag. They weren't pretty food! But they are tasty. The polish dog was very yummy. I keep wanting more meat from the pork chop burger. It definitely was worth the trip over there.
One of the best spots for a quick bite. A true Chicago original! They give fries with every item ordered. The hot peppers are not to be underestimated - they are HOT. Some favorites of mine are the pork chop sandwich and the classic Chicago sausage!
Finally made the trek to try a Maxwell Street iconic sandwich. The original polish was spot-on and exactly what I was hoping. It had great snap and the flavors was savory and complimented with sweet onion and mustard. However, the pork chop was dry and didnt have much taste, except for the onions and mustard. The fries were a bit too greasy for me but if your hungry, its a good carb filler. I would rather get another polish and skip the fries although they are included. Its absolutely worth the trip for the polish sandwich! Dont expect anything fancy here.
We wanted to stop at this iconic polish and hot dog place since we watch the TV show "Somebody feed Phil". We've got the all beef polish sausage and it was gross.... I don't understand why people like it. The onions was not cooked enough, the sausage was dry.
