Story

Footwear for the four seasons of life

Le Jardin de mes Pieds is an independently owned comfort shoe store located at 371 Main Street in Hawkesbury Ontario. Started by Joanne Pelletier on a micro-scale in 1982, it was a 100 square foot stall in a public market in Dollard des Ormeaux, Quebec, selling sheepskin slippers and accessories. Joanne moved the shop to the Plaza Pointe Claire in 1989 and expanded to 1600 square feet in 2004. She added comfort footwear to the mix and her handful of staff - ‘’Oh, we had so much fun’’- sold footwear and accessories, making life-long friends.

In 2016, she decided it was time to 'right-size'. She closed the Pointe Claire store and moved the operation closer to home, to 371 Main Street in Hawkesbury. It’s a welcoming space, sunny and bright. There are comfortable shoes, boots, sandals and accessories for men and women. The specialization has evolved into wide widths, and just about all the brands carried are orthotic friendly. It’s the right store in the right place at the right time for a population with tired, aching, challenging feet.

The Hawkesbury store was originally opened in 2012 - it’s part of a growing trend to revitalize shopping on Main Street in smaller towns. Hawkesbury is halfway between Montreal and Ottawa, close enough for Le Jardin de mes Pieds to be an interprovincial shopping destination.

Shopping at Le Jardin de mes Pieds is not some impersonal department store experience. Many people think that the staff is all somehow part of a family - it’s a team effort, where everyone pulls their weight, there’s no high pressure selling on commission.

Difficult fittings are not a problem for a staff that knows their stock and understands the frustration of ‘’Madame-with-the-sore-feet’’ who still wants to look like a lady. We understand that when your feet hurt, nothing is right in your world.
