Awesome food, great prices and fast service..."See you tomorrow". The speedy Gonzalez lunch specials are the best. They give you all you can eat chips and salsa. They offer table-side prep of fresh guacamole. Highly recommended restaurant, I'm never disappointed

I ordered the Speedy Gonzales lunch special. I eat at a lot of different Mexican restaurants. I'm not a stickler about authentic versus Americanized or any of that. I almost always enjoy ANY Mexican food, but I didn't enjoy my lunch at Jalapenos in Peru, Illinois. The salsa was like tomato juice with pieces of onion in it. The chips were pretty good and the taco was okay, but the sauce on the enchilada didn't taste right. Not good. The refried beans didn't taste as bad as the enchilada. They probably would have been better if I'd had some decent salsa to put on them. I was really disappointed. I pretty much never write a bad review, and I wouldn't have in this case, but when I paid for my meal they overcharged me. They said it wasn't lunch time pricing anymore. We actually had a couple minutes to spare, and it had definitely still been lunch time when we ordered the food. I didn't argue with them about it. It was only a buck more, and a buck is basically nothing, but it added insult to injury after such a disappointing meal. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. We all have an occasional bad day. I don't know. Peru has a lot of restaurants. I'll try a different one next time I'm in town.

Ate lunch with my husband. He had burritos and I had steak fajitas. Yummy rice and beans and warm chips and salsa... Love that place ❣️🎉
