Super disappointed. My son's 16th birthday. Asked for a zombie apocalypse cake. Zombies, blood, brains, gross stuff. Saw other pics of cakes that were creative and over the top. Unfortunately, that is not what we got. It was a nice looking cake, but much more "pretty adult Halloween party" than zombie apocalypse. The disappointment on my son's face was obvious, but we made the best of it, thought well it probably tastes great. Nope. The macarons were wet, the frosting was gritty with sugar and waaayyy to sweet. The chocolate cake was dry and tasteless. Almost everyone stopped eating after a few bites. only 3 of 11 people actually finished their slice. For an expensive cake that we drove an hour each way to get, absolutely not again. I could just cry.
First off, credit must be given that these macaroons we're only of our set that included a jam with the filling. It's a nice touch... Alas the cookies themselve's were the most lack luster in every other regard... The crusty shell lacked a satisfying crunch to pillowyness ratio weird to write, but if you've experienced these cookies at their height, like at say Kalamazoo's Victorian Bakery [under 20 minutes away, provide same day service and cost the same or less], then you understand my sentiments. Had they not the jelly they did, their most remarkable feature would be their blandness... But these are special order, I asked for a dozen assorted for Friday before labor day and these at their earliest convenience which translated to today the 9th. Apparently special macarons have some bottleneck on their production and can be manufactured in a 3 day window. Quel domage... They were special orders in that I asked they have spots on half. The idea being they resemble Amanita mushrooms for a birthday cake on the 5th. I suppose I should have included a picture as these have spots on a half of a half. But I suppose to the baker, maybe?, They cant be flipped in production so the exposed top is the "whole"... I don't know... Let's not give ourselves too much to charity. Which is a sentiment they hold close to heart! You see I never received the assorted dozen. I had forgotten to pick them up at 9am that Friday and given the labor day holiday , and their limited hours, the earliest next opening was today, a full week later. At pick up today I simply informed, "We had to throw them out, they do go bad.". I hope in reading this my audience finds a chuckle, it is funny with a 68$ punchline. I wish, moving forward, I had received some notification, a phone specifically at any point. Like, hey are these dots right, or "just reminding you of today's pick order.". Maybe in the face of self evident err some attempt at amelioration, perhaps I ask too much... If you're in dire need of Macaroons, know there is a bakery across the street that makes a decent gluten free cupcake and macaroons. Along with the aforementioned Victorian Bakery [open the Sunday before laborday, most likely 7 days a week equally equipped and staffed] who, in my opinion, wholeheartedly makes a support cookie.
UPDATE: They have removed my Facebook review and blocked me from their page. VERY professional. Contacted ICB in May to order a smash cake for my sons first birthday, I sent inspiration photos to them via Facebook messenger and went over the details on the phone. The person I spoke with immediately sent me and invoice that I paid. Upon pickup of the cake in October, it was completely wrong. Majority of the design elements including the entire top portion were missing. I immediately contacted ICB and was told a new person had completed my order and they were unsure how they missed the design elements. They offered a partial refund. I asked if they could make the missing elements and was told no, they didn’t have time and didn’t want to give me a “half-assed” cake. They then offered a larger refund. 5 business days after the event, I called requested information on how the refund would work, I was told the business initiated it already and it takes 5-7 business days. On business day 10, I contacted the bakery again and was told they would look into it. On business day 12, I contacted them again and was told they requested the status from their vendor and would get back to me asap. On business day 17, I contacted them again and received no answer. I called the bakery and someone took down my information and said they would call me back shortly and never did. I ended up contacting my bank to dispute the charge. I do NOT recommend. While they post beautiful cakes, they do not take responsibility for their mistakes and ignore customers when questioned. Perhaps they don’t realize when people spend $50+ on a cake, it’s for a meaningful event. My son’s first birthday cake was ruined and unusable. I ended up getting a different cake for him. Based on reviews on Facebook and the BBB website, it’s not the first time they’ve done this.
Thank you Soneya and Island City team for the beautiful and delicious Macaron wedding cake! Vanilla cake with chai buttercream frosting received rave reviews - and no one could even tell it was Gluten Free! I loved how much customization I was able to get with macaron flavors - and the price was very fair. Definitely consider these guys if you're interested in a smaller cake for your wedding or event!
Wile cakes and cookies look good they don't have no taste . Cake are dry , filling is poor . For my son's second birthday everybody took a bite of cake and that was it . The entire cake went to trash.
What's not to love about this place. Good place to work, meet up with friends, sit by a warm fireplace, or sit by a window with a view. Friendly staff that knows coffee well and provides exceptional customer service. You can also find merchandise items such as hats, mugs, coasters, shirts and more. Whether you are a local or just passing through, this place is for you.
This is the best bakery I've been to in years! We tried a few different flavors of macarons, as well as a cupcake, and everything was phenomenal! I've not had macarons from too many different places, but these were by far the best ones I've ever had thus far and I'll absolutely be back for more in the future. The cupcake was equally fantastic, with delicious, well-balanced chocolate buttercream icing and a buttery, fluffy cake. Everything tasted expertly homemade. It was all so good, we ate it all before thinking to take any photos, hah! If you're on the fence about stopping by, I'd definitely suggest you should! Yum!! Edit: We went back for more, and I remembered to take photos this time! Pictured are the macarons we picked out: Galaxy Swirl Salted Caramel, Peanut Butter Cinnamon, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Orange, Raspberry, and Hot Chocolate. Their Lemon macarons are one of my favorites, so I definitely recommend them if they're in the case, and, if you like floral flavors, their Lavender macarons are decadent, too!
I have to say the cake was absolutely beautiful! Every little girl’s dream cake, but unfortunately the white cake was so crumbly and dry. It doesn’t seem like a common situation with the bakery and maybe a fluke, but it was really disappointing.
I went for the house made macarons and was not disappointed I got there a little early, so the selection was a bit limited. I was assured by the clerk that the afternoon would be better. I would suggest ordering ahead, or doing a walk- in later in the day. I drove almost 40 minutes to see what this place was all about... TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!! Their macarons are packed with flavor, gorgeously colored and are much bigger than I expected.. so nice. The variety was impressive with taste being on point no matter which one I chose I tried six It wasn't easy to choose between the other yummy looking baked goods available. Always down to try the next "new to me"flavor profile, I snagged a beautiful lemon/ ginger/ honey scone while I was there.... the best scone I've ever eaten.... soft, tender, almost flaky and every flavor was just the right level to excite the taste buds in taste and texture...mmmmmmm Can't wait for another great excuse to go back!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for an awesome treat or cool birthday cake and TOTALLY worth the trip!!! I plan on going back, for sure... gonna try some yummy drink next time, too!! haven't tried a Boba beverage yet, and they have those too, plus coffees and teas..WOO HOO!!!!!
The staff is always super friendly. The coffees are just as good as Starbucks if not better. I custom ordered a birthday cake recently and it was everything I hoped it would be. Super thrilled with how it turned out, and you cant beat the prices.
