Not sure if I got the wrong dish from IPOH, but I was quite disappointed with the main I ordered. I got the curry beef brisket with rice as well as an order of Malay style chicken wings. The curry brisket was quite cheap, priced at $12.25. Unfortunately the quality also reflected it. First off, every piece of beef was cold in the centre, which made me suspect they have a pot of beef in the fridge and just toss a few chunks in the curry when an order comes in. Sadly they didn’t warm it up enough. Secondly, the curry sauce was just lukewarm and quite bland. I don’t taste any of the spices, which is quite disappointing since they boosted to be authentic Malaysian food. On top of the curry beef, there were also carrots and potato chunks. The chicken wings in comparison was much better. It was deep fried properly with a crispy skin. The chicken wings were also seasoned perfectly, it was juicy with every bite. Definitely will order it again. Unlike some of the food court stalls, Ipoh gives you a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready, so you don’t have to stand and wait for your order. It took around 15 minutes for us to get our order.
Really happy with the Hainanese chicken laksa I got. It had mixed egg noodles and vermicelli, as is traditional. The broth was creamy and yummy with not too much heat. I got it to go and served in a nice bowl when i got home. Unlike many other places at crystal, they also take card!
Pleasantly surprised how good the 'Curry Beef Brisket' was. This place has been here forever, but this was the first time trying this place. The curry is in separate container. So, you can decide how to eat it. Food was piping hot! Definitely coming back!
Was looking for cheaper Malay/Singaporean cuisine since a Nasi Lemak for some reason costs >$16 for very simple ingredients. I'm not sure if this Crystal Mall food court Ipoh is related to the restaurant called Ipoh in Marpole. I did expect quality to be a little worse since it is cheaper and is in a food court. We ordered Nasi Lemak and Fried Kuay Teow. Nasi Lemak - rice definitely isn't very coconut-y. The sambal was tasty but lacking spiciness. The chicken wing was fried really nice and light - very juicy. The best Nasi Lemak I've had is from Shiok. Fried Kuay Teow - this is the first time I've had Malaysian kuay teow since I don't really like the singporean version. I really like this style and it resembles Hong Kong style fried flat rice noodles. It had prawns, clams although very flavorless clams, eggs, chinese sausage, chives and bean sprouts. It was ok but missing the wok hei high stiry fry heat. It satisfies my cravings but something is missing from each dish. For the pricing, that is what you get.
Ipoh is the bomb, 100%. There is no denying that Ipoh knows exactly what they're doing at an amazing value. My friends and I have visited this place multiple times on multiple vacations just because it was so good. I've gotten the curry beef in the past and more recently, their Hainanese chicken rice. They have a solid curry beef in a huge portion, but in my eyes, the real winner is their Hainanese chicken rice. I think it might be the best Hainanese chicken rice I've ever gotten ever. I've been around several restaurants and cafes in Ontario looking for a decent chicken rice, but none of them come close to the taste and value of Ipoh.
Ipoh is legit, I loved the roasted chicken and the curry beef brisket. Rice was nice, curry was awesome and the person who served me looked like he could have been a super model. 10/10
As a Malaysian myself, I rate IPOH Malaysian Cuisine up there with John 3:16 Malaysian Delights, which hails from Penang Island. Love at first bite.
Great Malaysian place in Crystal Mall. Ordered the Singapore Laksa. Delicious. Love the 2 different noodles. Soup was creamy with good flavour. Wish they deveined the shrimp, but still good. Roti was crispy, like green onion pancake without the green onions. Not "chewy" like other places. Curry sauce was a perfect compliment. PS They take credit card!!! even AMEX
Worth a try for sure. Stopped in for a snack before shopping at Best Buy nearby and the Ipoh Hor Funrice noodles with egg sauce didn't disappoint. This is a well executed Cantonese dish with meat and seafood for protein. I've had this dish in various Malaysian restaurants and can attest this place made on the best ones in town. Will return to try their Malaysian rice dishes!
This is one of my fav spots to go eat at Crystal Mall. Especially love their wings and roti prata w/ curry sauce!
