Typical government operation, but if you need help you really should make an appointment ahead of time for them to help you. Don't expect anyone to be able to do anything too personal for you-- this is more of a place to find information and resources. The tax code and collections are just too complicated anymore for anyone to help on a personal level without paying $$. I'd give it another star if it had a less intimidating atmosphere. Yikes!

I went to the IRS to receive my transcripts on multiple occasions and they were quick. Their enthusiasm was non-existent though. Security personnel were amiable. 10/10 would go back. ;)

You need to have an appointment to do ANYTHING here now. I walked in not knowing this and the man at the front desk just gave me a number to call to make an appointment. Luckily I had my phone and was able to call and be put on hold for 15 minutes. It took another 5-10 minutes actually talking to a person who works at a national call center to make me an appointment for an hour later. So I got there 11:15 and at 11:45 I got an appointment for 12:45. So now I'm late for a meeting and couldn't do the other errands I had planned on. They weren't even busy. I just needed a transcript that previously took 5 minutes to get.

Just walked 8 blocks to the local office in Omaha Ne to set up a payment plan with the IRS.....found out they only accept appointments now. Not a sole was sitting in the 50 chairs available. Tax dollars at work here. Oh, but they were helpful in giving me a phone number to call with 900 options!
