I'm a big fan of the space and how they took measures to help the acoustics because it is a tight space with a lot of noise. We were sat near the kitchen which is open for everyone to see and the chef was doing a lot of yelling. The polenta fries were the best thing I ate... the pasta, pizza, and desserts were underwhelming in flavor.
Very good place. The waiter Tom was helpful and extremely pleasant. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the veal was tender. Will definitely go there again.
The first thing that stands out about Impasto is the decor- there are many little touches that make one feel like they are eating at a special place. The exceptional staff are welcoming and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu- from drinks to dessert- so you can be sure you are going to enjoy whatever you order and enjoy the time you spend here. And the food itself is delicious and innovative without being overly fancy. I love that you can enjoy drinks at the bar, eat overlooking the kitchen, tucked away in the corner, or just grab appetizers on your way to another event. It manages to be great for the perfect date night and a chill spot after work. A great addition to the Hanover/Upper Valley dining scene.
My husband and I have gotten the shrimp risotto a few times and it’s incredibly delicious and rich. The mussels were also fantastic. Impasto makes a great espresso martini, well balanced and not too sweet. I’d also like to thank our waiter Simon- he was incredibly kind, attentive even on a busy night, and shared helpful recommendations! All around a great experience.
Visited their on a Thursday night in July with me, my wife, and 19-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, we were not overly impressed with their food. Some aspects were really good while others were not. Full disclosure, we're from Northern New Jersey outside of New York City and have access to an awesome amount of high quality Italian food. I can see how other reviewers admire Impostos attempt at higher and Italian food recipes, but for us they fell short. My daughter made a joke that they should change their name to "Imposters". They're focaccia bread is not like the typical forgot you a bread in that it had a white bread texture. The flavor profile was good, but did not have the chew of a traditional focaccia bread. The Caesar salad was very good with a dressing that was obviously made on the premise. It had good creaminess and flavor including a good amount of anchovy taste. Seafood proteins in our dishes were good, however the sauces were not up to par from our own experience. The sauce that was the worst for us was the Alfredo sauce. It was thickened too much by flower and did not have the cheesy, creamy flavor one would expect. Again, I admire their attempts at making better Italian food, but for us, they fell short. We were underwhelmed.
I’m still picturing the yummy food from last night! This was our 1st trip here and certainly won’t be the last!! Unfortunately we were sooo hungry I didn’t take pics. In a nutshell my hubs and I sat at the chefs table what a fun experience taking in the smells, fast paced cooking by the best chefs in the Upper Valley - Todd Ramsey and Shawn!! We enjoyed fresh marinated olives, scrumptious bruschetta and polenta fries that melted in our mouth. For dinner the hubs had the Penne Alla Vodka and I dined on Mussels Vermicelli both dishes were top notch which was enjoyed with a beautiful Tucson red. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and feels like it would fit perfectly into a cool NYC neighborhood. A+++ for the wonderful service by the amazing Conner!! Todd and Shawn the great chefs were so very pleasant to converse with.
After trying a wide assortment of items from the menu here, if I could rate this place more stars, I would. We had the focaccia, the Antipasto plate , the clams casino pizza, penne alla vodka, clam fettuccine, and the shrimp arrabiata. All were incredible. They also have a great selection of wines, and as a bonus - all of the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Be prepared that it's not cheap at least for us who ate and drank our way through the menu, but it is worth it!
This place was awesome from the moment we walked through the door. The ambiance is nice and the chefs table allows you to enjoy all the action happening in the kitchen. 4 adults and 2 children in our party and we all left full and extremely happy! We all tried each others apps, entrees, and desserts and to our surprise we all throughly enjoyed the flavors of each dish. The staff was very nice and interacted with my children in the best way. We will definitely be going back!
This place is a must visit if you’re rolling through Hanover . I drive through often for work, and I’ll be stopping every chance I get. Got 2 appetizers with coworkers and both were phenomenal. The sautéed mussels/sausage and the mamas meatball appetizer both blew us away. Service was great and they paired wine with our food perfectly. We split a few pastas as well family style . The penne vodka and white Bolognese are fantastic to mention a few . And the swordfish. Oh my, the swordfish was out of this world. Only regret is eating to much to not be able to enjoy dessert, but even that looked fantastic . Can’t wait to go back and try
A surprising number of vegan/vegetarian options. And really good food! A new go-to.
