Ida's Cupcake Cafe--Galveston

Ida's use to be great with real flavor. Over the years you can tell quality has suffered in the name of growth. My last few orders have been stale, flavorless and obviously the cake was at one time frozen. I understand growth and things change but what really inspired the review was the horrible service received at the westside location yesterday. Stopped in after work to pick up 1/2 dozen cupcakes. The place was dead, the worker got up from the table they were at clearly annoyed at my disruption of her magazine reading. When she got to the counter, I was reviewing the menu and just needed a minute. Her response, "Its not that difficult pick a cupcake, pick a frosting". Wow, I have been in the door for less than 1 minute...just need a second. So I rush my order, I mention they are for a birthday and can I get sprinkles. Order complete, no sprinkles when I remind her well you can imagine how that went. All said love to support local but time for you to get back to basics.

I went in today to pick up cupcakes for a birthday gift...I handmade a little stove with an oven out of cardstock a few days before (hoping I could fit a single cupcake in it) The woman who helped me was incredibly sweet, and seemed just as excited as I was to surprise my friend with this little treat. Not were we able to fit a cupcake, she also was able to add one of their holders (it fit PERFECTLY) The experience that I had this morning at their shop was beyond what I expected. She decorated the cupcake and added a few in another box for me to take. Their cupcakes themselves are always delicious, but the service I received today was worth so much more!

Creative idea but the atmosphere has a forced-cuteness to it. Lots of options but not really for the food-allergy crowd (unless you can't have gluten). Yummy otherwise.

Didn't even get home before ALL THE CUPCAKES feel over... Totally destroyed and mixed all the frosting flavors. Waste of $30 for a dozen cupcakes that ended up in the garbage and I now have to get something else for a birthday!

I was skeptical that it would just an overpriced cupcake but i had the chocolate with German chocolate frosting and it was the best cupcake I've had. ... the best any cake I've had. More complex than a simple cupcake with great textures and flavors. Not sickly sweet junk but quality ingredients. Yum!
