I’ve completed three road tests at the Burnaby ICBC office so far. While I didn’t pass the first two, which I understand as I was still refining my skills, my experience with the third road test felt particularly unfair.nnDuring my most recent test, I encountered a situation where I was waiting to turn left at a major intersection. As I was waiting for a safe gap, the light turned yellow, and oncoming cars began accelerating to get through. By the time it was safe for me to turn, the light had turned red. Despite this, I proceeded safely on a red light as there was no other viable option. However, I was failed for this single issue.nnThe examiner, Vincent, exhibited low energy from the start and seemed distracted throughout the test. At one point, he even appeared frustrated with a pedestrian who was simply standing on a curb where I was supposed to parallel park. Additionally, he seemed disengaged during crucial moments, such as when I was turning right in high-speed traffic, with his head leaning against the passenger window and wearing sunglasses.nnGiven this, I am concerned about the fairness of my evaluation. It feels unreasonable to be failed for a single incident, especially under these circumstances. Additionally, I now have to wait 60 days to retake the test, during which my Learner's license will expire, forcing me to retake the knowledge test as well. This entire situation seems unnecessarily punitive. Also how are we evaluated in these exams? Are we required to have a perfect score?nnI hope my experience can help bring attention to the importance of consistent and focused evaluations, as well as the need for examiners to maintain a positive and engaged demeanor during road tests.
I had my class 7 road test this week and passed on my first try. The examiner did set a nice tone in the beginning of the test by greeting me with a friendly smile and he was being kind and polite during the entire duration, while giving me clear instructions well ahead of time, while putting me at ease. Came to know his name is Hossein and I'm really grateful for making it a positive experience for me. I took my knowledge test in the same location, and went once for getting my icbc keyword reminded - the staff there was very friendly, helpful and efficient during all 3 visits I had to this center. Thank you so much for your amazing service everyone!
Firstly, I want to clarify that my rating is unrelated to the personnel at this location. I visited today for a Class 6 road test, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis as informed by the ICBC agent by phone. I made three phone calls to confirm that there is no waiting list and that the service operates on a first-come, first-served basis. I arrived promptly at 7 am to be the first person for my test. However, to my disappointment, when the staff opened the door, they informed me that I was on the waiting list and would have to wait for my turn on a first come, first serve basis. This contradicts the information provided by the ICBC representative throughout three phone conversations.nThis situation is really exasperating for me. I had to take a day off from work, resulting in the loss of a day's wages. Additionally, I had to remain at this location for a whole 8 hours till 3 pm, just to return home with absolutely no result whatsoever.nIt is perplexing that ICBC fails to acknowledge the fact that individuals have been waiting for their class 6 road test for over three months. Furthermore, they only provide the exam twice at best in the most favorable circumstances. This is due to the fact that they suspend testing throughout the winter season.
Today I passed road test for my class 5 driver license. ANTHONY was my instructor and he was very clear with instructions and polite. Also, I got late by 20 minutes for my appointment time and they said you are late, your time is over , and you can put your name on standby and wait . So I was having no other choice. So i gave my name for standby and after 10-15 minutes they called me and I passed my test. Really satisfied by the way they dealt with me.
On July 11, 2024, at 11:20, I took a road test at ICBC and unfortunately failed. While failure is a part of learning and improvement, my main concern is the demeanor of the ICBC examiners. It seems that some examiners are unnecessarily cocky and unfriendly. As test takers, we are humans too, and many of us have put in significant effort, time, and money into preparing for these tests. Not everyone has the privilege to practice daily due to various circumstances, and many take expensive lessons to improve their skills.nnHowever, the lack of basic human decency from the examiners is disheartening. Before my test, my instructor was already very unfriendly, which set a negative tone. During the test, the examiner's gasps and mumbles were unsettling and made it clear that they intended to fail me, which caused me to lose confidence and make mistakes. I understand that examiners have a job to do, but where is the human factor? A little respect and understanding can go a long way in making the process less stressful for test takers.nnIt's disappointing to see that instead of encouraging us to do better, some examiners choose to be discouraging from the start. This behavior only adds to the anxiety and stress of an already challenging test. I hope ICBC can address this issue and ensure that all examiners treat test takers with the respect and fairness they deserve.
