There is no doubt that going to eat at Honō is always a pleasure and a discovery! Having eaten a lot of ramen in Japan, I can say with certainty that this place will not disappoint. You can see the dedication and passion that motivates Honō to serve delicious ramen, in fact, they do everything down to their own noodles. There are four broth options to choose from, including a vegetarian option. Another concept that surprised us was the sale of alcoholic beverages prepared in cans! Smart move if you feel like ordering them for take-out along with your ramen.
Few but very different and good choices of ramen and sides. Good/fresh ingredients and well made but kinda simple in the overall work/preparation and dept on the tastes. The cocktails were, for me, a total disaster since they came served in a 15$ can. Small, well and simply woodstyle decorated. The place is pleasant but kinda small spaced for tall/heavy people. Noisy when crowded. Good for 2 people, hard for 4 and good luck on groups. They don't take phone/email reservations. Online platform only.
I loved our experience here! We came in a big group and the restaurant was busy. Service at times was slow but overall a great experience. The best ramen I've had. The cat designs are so cute, I bought a couple of shirts. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian ramen
I went there with a friend for lunch. The menu is limited to 5 ramen dishes and each come with a appetizer and dessert of the day. Very Japanese indoor setup with the small cubicles. The service was good, our food can fast even if the restaurant was full. I took the miso soup which was delicious. I will definitively come back there for lunch. One of the best ramen spot I have tried so far in Québec.
Yikes, the ramen was not good! I rarely ever leave bad reviews and I feel bad for even posting this, however even though the servers were friendly and the ambiance is pretty cool, the ramen on the other hand was terrible!! I might be spoiled as I was visiting from Toronto and I’ve tried many many ramen there, and never had such a disappointing experience. This place is a little too modern with the fancy cocktails, that maybe their main thing shouldn’t be ramen. Tried both the vegetarian ramen as well as the miso ramen. The miso ramen had wayyyyyy too much salt and was pretty much not edible. The vegetarian ramen also had a very different taste and not in a good way. Still give it a 2 star because the restaurant it self is pretty cool and tight, and the servers were working hard even during a busy time. I wouldn’t recommend it though.
I visited with two friends on the 9th of November 2022 in the evening. I had already tried Hono Izakaya previously and adored my experience. This place is like a sister restaurant directly connected to each other. The welcoming was great as well as the service throughout. I learned that you can only reserve online. I recommend doing so to guarantee a spot. The restaurant was mostly full. The restaurant has a few really unique coktails. I really liked the Yu-Gin home made ingredients. We shared a karaage together as an entrée. The chicken was crispy and the sauce nice and zesty. For my main dish, I got the miso ramen with extra chashu, egg and spicy sauce. The spicy sauce on the side is perfect to dip food in. The broth was really creamy and had excellent depth to it. Though I felt a light granular feel to it. The eggs are perfectly marinated and the egg yolk deserves a moment of appreciation. The meat in the ramen melted literally in my mouth. Make sure to eat the meat first. I also got a Highball Dewar's, something that Japanese are quite fond of. I preferred the Yu-Gin personally due to its light sweetness. I also got a Japanese cheese cake that I found lacking in the cheese department, but learned from our server, a kind tall blond haired and beautifully tattooed woman, that this was the way that Japanese made this type of cheese cake. I was happy to try it in the end. We stayed about 3 hours in the restaurant. I will definitely return to try out the other types of broths. All in all, it was an amazing night with great company and a restaurant that gave off a welcoming, quiet ,and cozy atmosphere. //////// 2023-01-20 at 5:00 PM My second visit went equally marvelously. I brought a great friend that we often make home made ramen meals before watching a good movie. I tried the tonkotsu daily dish and again added two portions of meat, two eggs and spicy sauce on the side. The beefy broth was extra rich and quite enticing. Not as exquisite as the miso broth, but a close second. That's in addition to the Sapporo with ginger ale I barely finished due to sheer quantity is was really refreshing, bit the "small bock" is enough to quench most thirsts. My friend particularly loved the edamame. They were warm, their skin more tender than usual and seasoned to perfection. He enjoyed the karaage, but feels that another restaurant on St-Joseph has an edge over Hono Ramen. The woman that welcomed us at the entrance is the same that served me last time. She recognized within an instant and was just as kind as the first time. Our waitress that had lovely transparent manicured nails honored us with her attention to detail and kindness throughout. Another five star experience
The Shoyu ramen was very very salty, from the broth to the ajitsuke tamago. Also the combination of ingredients is unconventional i.e. bok choy & red ginger. The batter on the chicken karage was dense and dry. Very disappointed at the taste given the high ratings.
Absolute perfection! I love my ramen and having lived in NYC for over a decade I’ve had a lot of fantastic ramen. I ate a lot of ramen in Tokyo too, and Hono Ramen is just as good as the best of the best ramen houses. We had the miso and the shoyu ramen and both were incredible. The broth of the miso ramen was mesmerizing and the slices of pork just melted in your mouth. I will be dreaming of my return here!
Our first meal after we landed Quebec City, we were looking for some Japanese ramen and this place is not far from where we lived. It’s not an authentic Japanese ramen place, fusion style, but good way. We ordered tantan noodle and miso ramen, they were all very tasty, a little salty though. We also got the fried noodle small side dish, it was ok.
The vegan ramen is so good I also got introduced to Sapporo with yuzu and it was delicious! The staff are great!! Super cool vibes, definitely recommend
