The part of Holt Park my wife and I have been to has a very small, kind of hidden and peaceful beach on Kelly Lake. We've taken our 14 year old black Lab to swim there several times. Holt Park can be very crowded though. The one major downside to this park is that the 'seasonal' RV park section looks pretty trashy. It has more of the look and feel of a permanent low rent trailer park which is sad considering how nice Kelly Lake actually is. This park would have so much more potential if the RV section would be eliminated. I'm not normally this harsh in my reviews, but the Town of Spruce needs to clean this place up. It would be more enjoyable and profitable to the community if they did so.

Holt Park is on Kelly Lake which is a quaint area in northeast Wisconsin only 45 minutes from Green Bay. There is a very small, but friendly and self-sustained community on the lake which includes several restaurants and a gasoline/convenience station that is well stocked and serves as the local grocery. Holt Park is owned by the town of Spruce, Wisconsin. It is right on Kelly Lake. They have a full time on-site park manager which is nice. I was greeted by park manager "Kat" who was very kind and toured me through the park and recommended several good restaurants. The park is heavily wooded and has a cool feeling with all the large pine trees. The signpost at the park office is rich with information about local activities, local restaurant menus, and special events. The park has some (nine?) very nice lakeside campsites. It also has a two small beach areas with picnic tables. The public area of the park is pretty small - about the size of a typical Midwestern urban backyard. There are actually two public parts of the park - one open to the sun and the other with forest shading of pine trees. Both areas have sand beaches and picnic tables. You can pick which style suites you best. The rest of the park is the trailer campsite area. Unfortunately, the largest part of the park is a "seasonal" mobile home trailer park type area that looks like a very low rent "permanent" mobile home park - rotting wood decks, old bicycles and junk laying around, tightly spaced motor homes with varying degrees of mildew covering them. It is an eyesore and a sad deterrent from what could be an exceptionally nice park. The park has a shower area that seems reasonably well kept, although a bit older in construction. It also has a fish cleaning station which is a convenient touch that certainly helps keep the area clean. Kelly Lake itself is a small, but deep lake (41 feet) with nearly crystal clear water. The entire lakeshore is crowded with smaller cottages typical of overdeveloped lakefront areas from the 1950's/1960's. As a result, the water gets a tremendous amount of motor boat pressure in the summer. There are times when there are so many motor boats, water skiers, jet skis, pontoon boats, that it looks perilous with calamity in reckless abundance. In my opinion, many of the boaters on Kelly Lake have no respect for other boaters; making tremendous wakes and zoom frightfully close to other boaters. Of course, there are plenty of folks who like that kind of scene and for those people, Kelly Lake is at the top of its class. Kelly Lake has a very good dining and cocktail scene and it has several quaint affordable lodging choices. Each restaurant has it's own famous claim to fame but all are known for good food, generous portions, and comfortable pricing. A good day would be to go to Holt Park for a day at one of the two small sandy swimming beaches and rather than packing a picnic lunch, plan to eat at one of the good local restaurants.
