As an entity helping kids this place seems great but when it comes to transparency for hiring it was less than impressive.nA recent job was posted on their site and since I had done work for them as a freelancer I applied for the full time position given my 35 years of experience. In spite of my considerable experience and having done projects that clearly embodied their views to society and values I was not even offered an interview.nSince this is public sector I delivered a letter by hand that was sent to the HR VP and the President asking for some clarification why I was not even asked for an interview.nZero response and zero acknowledgement of the letter. Nothing.nUnfortunately many of these public institutions seems to be run like some sort of fiefdom where hiring is done through whatever standards they choose. While they advertised for a minimum of 5 years experience they indeed ended up hiring someone with the bare minimum of experience.nI applaud the work done here but clearly this place has some HR issues. Getting paid for that freelance gig was also a huge pain and took quite some time to actually get paid since the first cheque was made to the wrong name.nGreat values. Poor administration and transparency.
My child and I stayed at Holland Bloorview for a bit over a month for his rehab from surgery. The team was wonderful, supportive and compassionate. Despite it being a very challenging period, both my child and I had an overall very positive experience. I'm sure that recovery at home would have taken longer and been much much more challenging. I'm forever grateful that we were referred here for his recovery and supported through the transition back to home.
Our son spent six weeks at Holland Bloorview as an inpatient in the BIRT unit and we were very happy with the help they provided. The therapists OT, PT, ST were excellent. The hospital makes every effort to accommodate the diverse and often quite complicated needs of the patients and also offers engaging and stimulating after-hours programming, supporting the kids’ mental health and personal skills. Almost all of the staff we engaged with were warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and accommodating. Our son made several friends there who he keeps in touch with. We’re grateful that this facility exists as it’s much needed for a too often underserved population.
Did one of my first internships here and these days we visit regularly to use the community services. Friendly front desk, modern facilities, knowledgeable medical staff. Doesn’t hurt to have great funding.
Holland Bloorview has a good school and excellent programs. I’ve gotten an AFO twice there and the first time when I was in grade 7, they were fine but now I’m 19 and going on 20 and I was referred to this hospital for a new AFO which would normally take about ‘three’ weeks but the day before I was supposed to get it, they pushed the date back to June 7! What the hell!?nnI got angry before because my doctors can’t get it through their heads to WAIT until I get the AFO because my old one barely fits and it hurts to walk in it but I don’t see the point anymore.nnAlso second thing; what the hell is their problem? Back when I was in high school, I applied to volunteer there in the summer but they declined me and decided to hire another student who went to the exact same school. Disappointed….
