We received a lovely welcome and service from the staff, but the quality of the food was unfortunately disappointing.nnFor starters, we got the buffalo-style fried oysters, the pork tongue and the homemade bread with truffle butter. The bread was the best of all of them, the butter was good but only tasted like truffle and not buttery at all. The oysters’ taste was buried with the strong buffalo and cheese sauce, and the pork was veeery smoky. It wasn’t bad but to me none of the dishes tasted harmonious.nnAs for the main dishes, we got the guinea fowl with turnips, the mackerel with smoked paprika lobster bisque and the sous-vide pork filet with celeriac. All of the proteins were dry and again, the dishes were lacking harmony. Presentation wise, I was also a little disappointed, but that’s just personal preference.nnIt’s my second time here, but the first time for dinner. I’d recommend for brunch but not for dinner.
This was by far the best dining experience I had while in Quebec City. I got in the afternoon before it got too busy at dinner so it was nice and quiet. The atmosphere of this place is unmatched, even the toilets were super cool and showed the history!nMy server was great as well and if it weren’t for his recommendation I wouldn’t have had such a great experience.nFirst I got homemade bread, classic French entree, and it was so warm, fluffy and nice and dangerous, with the truffle butter being very earthy.nBut the star of the show was the blood pudding, something I’ve never had, with escargot and potato. This elevated dish had so many components, from the egg yolk on the potato adding slight sourness, but the potato being so creamy with a great mouth feel. The mushroom veal sauce added a nice moistness to the whole dish and was very strong. The Parm elevated the snails which nice and tender a lot. But the blood pudding sounds weird but was so warm, and moist with steam coming right out. There were little onions inside that added to the aromatics and texture. The flavours were unique, complex and rich. The dish was also so beautiful I almost didn’t want to eat it.nnOverall the value for this place is crazy, you get an amazing French meal for a reasonable price. If you visit Quebec City, go here. The locals are so lucky to have this.
This place is an absolute gem. Excellent, friendly, attentive service, incredible food, and a lovely atmosphere. The food was top-rate, but not your typical use-a-microscope-to-find-the-tiny-portion-your-plate sizing, so you have enough to be satisfied with your meal, and if ours were anything to go by, it'll be absolutely delicious. Just a wonderful way to wrap up a short vacation to Quebec City.
Such a treasure! We found it walking around Jean Baptist street nearing lunch time and angled for the brunch menu. The scrambled urchin eggs were unreal - as were the deviled eggs. So rich and complex and just fantastic. You canNOT miss the orleans spritz. Subtle gorgeous elixir that will stay in my hobbit loving heart forever! Our server Leanna I am pretty sure that is here name - so kind and sweet and enthusiastic. Also loved every damn song that came on. Looooved this place and the whole street. Spend a day here. And do not miss the library in the church. So cool!
The food was absolutely stunning. We tried the focaccia, patates, salmon with crab butter and carrot cake french toast. Every single dish was perfect and is some of the best food we have tried in Quebec City. The restaurant itself is quaint and beautifully decorated. The staff were friendly and attentive. We left and spent the next 2 hours in a food coma. A must-try place if you are ever in town.
