The busiest home styled Japanese restaurant in Burnaby! Food is straight forward and without fuss. Show up and line up before they open for dinner at 6:15 or come at 7:15 when the tables turnover; otherwise, prepare to wait.

If an elderly Japanese resident walks by your table, smile and say hi, this is their home.

Burnaby's hidden gym.  Deliciousness and value all around.   Their curry rice can feed two mouths!

Decor: more cafeteria-like.

Spicy karaage and their ice cream dessert are well known.

Tough to find, in Japanese care home.  Love the sliding doors.

Pretty fast service but beware of lineups during peak times.

Free underground parking.

While waiting for the restaurant to open for dinner, we asked one of the servers if we can see the menu and she willingly gave us one. While looking at the menu, here’s a nasty young server with a coloured blue pony tail hair shaved on the side asked the menu from me and pretended to look at it and then All of a sudden she said rudely “next time you need to ask for the menu and don’t take it!” We didn’t take this menu but we asked for it and a nice server gave it to us! This server’s  attitude is not acceptable! She’s rude and has no customer relations!  I don’t understand if one server gives it to customers why would one give a customer a heck thinking we even stole the menu from the counter? I told her off for accusing us from taking the menu without asking...this server should never be working there if she doesn’t know public relations. Hey server, you just don’t scold and accuse a customer without asking how we even got the menu!!! You are totally rude! You need to take customer service 101! Or if you’re having a bad day, never ever take it on the customers unless you want to lose all the customers!
Actually another customer asked for a menu too to look at it while waiting and the same rude sever didn’t give her one. The customer walked away and said make sure you do google reviews about this!
Beware of this obnoxious server in Hi Genki!!!
I don’t understand why one can’t review the menu while waiting for the restaurant to open for dinner!
Because of this incident we will never go back to this restaurant and rest assure we will spread the news that there is a server who is terrible with customers in this restaurant!

Interesting place. Authentic Japanese home cooking in a Japanese old folks care home. Yes, that's right. It's part of a retirement home.  Well, if the food is good enough for Japanese grandmas, it's good enough for me.

I love this place and the tea. It's so homey and relaxed. You might even be lucky enough to come during the monthly birthday celebrations - which is adorable. The Spicy Karaage is my favourite dish!
