I did all I could not to have to go to emergency. But, when it's late and you can't even keep down water, it gets scary. We are so very thankful for the excellent care I received late Sunday night. The entire staff were so caring; and the doctor was incredible! Many thanks for all your kindness. And, yes doc - I am the FHO biller.
First off the bad. I was recently at this hospital for a few days with my mom, the first evening I want to say there was this male nurse who lacked empathy. My mom was there on her deathbed literally she had a chest infection and that nurse I just mentioned stated that considered yourself warned that you’ll likely catch whatever she has. My mom had an oxygen mask on. Now I don’t care if I catch what she has. She’s in there literally fighting for her life because of something else but the infection may have contributed to it as well but I’m not a doctor. Second. What’s with all the bruises that could have been avoided. They had to take blood numerous of times from the arterial vein. They stated about running a line because she had it so many times but they never did twice. Second. The good. Thank you to Lisa in Step down unit, for letting all of us be with her before she passed away, thank you for explaining everything you did.
Been admitted for mental health crisis’ multiple times and treated in the ER for physical pain. First off, if you come in during a mental health crisis, expect to wait 8+ hours. Also expect to not meet with a psychiatrist at all in the ER and have the ER doctors decide your fate. Also expect for the nurses to talk bad about you at the nurses station right in front you. If you go to Kirkwood, it’s not that bad. If you end up on 6 North run as fast as you can. Forced to take medications I didn’t want to, nurses don’t want to talk or help you they just want to medicate you and you’ll get about 3 minutes a day to talk to a psychiatrist. If you come to the ER for anything else, good luck. I’ve come with severe abdominal pain and waited in the waiting room for hours, to be brought back to another waiting room inside of of the ER, where they converted rooms into a secondary waiting room. Once you are in, you will not get a bed. You will be seen by a doctor for 30 seconds, and waiting with no answers or idea what’s going on for hours. Again, you can hear the nurses talking bad about you or the other patients. While waiting for the nurse to complete an order, good luck. You will be waiting for a long time when it comes to nurses as they’re always chit chatting away and making it everyone’s business because that’s all you can hear. Nobody in the ER will treat you seriously. The only good part about this hospital is the lab, CT/MRI/Ultrasound staff and Dr. Ansel in the ER.
My Dad was airlifted here after a serious accident. He is 5 hrs from home and it took us awhile to get here to him. ICU was amazing and took perfect care of him. I can't begin to thank them enough for their kindness, patience and amazing bedside manners.
Terrible hospital that is filthy and runs out of linens. Burned out lights, dead flies on window sills, misdiagnosis. Will wake you up hours earlier than supposed to after a surgery because the nurses can't or won't read charts and get patients mixed up. This is unbelievable but 100% factual. Nurses up on care floors seem to be great. But I would die on the way to North bays hospital before stepping foot into that ER. Most nurses in the ER are rude and even downright cruel. Shouldn't be allowed near any human let alone the sick and vulnerable And the doctors are beyond arrogant and don't actually want to help. They seem bothered by any and all patients. To the point where the first question out of a family physician after their patient has spent time in the hospital is "and how did they treat you?" Quickly followed by "I'm so sorry you were treated like that. That's wrong." No aftercare ordered let alone any actual care provided while there. This hospital is an absolute disgrace.
THE WORST care. I can only speak to the level 4 nurses and PSW's.. they are rude, unfriendly & angry towards patients and the family members who visit. Unprofessional, heartless, no compassion and very clearly hate their jobs. Not once in an 8hr day does my grandmother's nurse come to check on her. They act as if the family is there to work and are very much inconvenienced when we need help. I have had over 10 surgeries this year in Ottawa and I have never seen hospital staff treat people so inhumane. If you don't want to be there, if you don't like your job then please find a new career. It is obviously not personal for you however it is very personal for the family members who are there with their loved ones.
My 21 month old daughter took a nasty fall in a parking lot and I was very concerned she had a concussion, also with her being so young I just wanted her to be looked at to make sure she was ok. We waited almost 5 HOURS in emerge before we had no choice but to leave because she would not stop screaming in the waiting room because it was very late and she was exhausted. The staff did not seem to care at all and I was heartbroken seeing not only her being unwell and having to wait so long but there were 3 other babies waiting in emerge who were very ill and had been there longer than us and had still not been seen. I felt terrible for these kids and everyone else for having to wait for so long. Healthcare in this province is AWFUL and I will be taking my daughter to a clinic first thing in the morning to make sure she is OK because at least there she will be seen within a half decent time. I do not like going to this place ....
Went there with daughter and granddaughter baby was throwing up and while there daughter started getting sick as well. I was taking care of granddaughter while daughter was being sick. Was told I couldn't go in the back with them as I wasn't vaccinated. Told if I go they would kick me out of the hospital for good. Never to be allowed in. So nurses had to care for my granddaughter while daughter was getting sick. Was the lady at front asking covid questions. She was very rude.
I've been hospitalized quite a few times this year with health complications. I'm not the strongest at the moment. Recently, I got food poisoning..got treated, wasn't going away so when I went in the second time to be seen there was this Nurse named Donna that was at the Triage. I was going through severe stomach pain so I was crying and she calls me in the triage room to register me, first thing she says to me is "you crying is not going to make the pain go away" i told her "this is the only way I know how to deal with it right now" then she proceeded to ask me if I smoked pot, I said yes but rarely. She suggested that's why, I said no I been smoking pot for years and I'm here for food poisoning. Never had a nurse so rude in my life.
Not really happy with the service at all! For one thing, My mom was supposed to go in for surgery for her back in October because the specialist she went to go see back in April told her it would take 4 to 6 months. It has now been 7 months since she has last seen him. Also, My friend went to the hospital in excruciating pain since after 2 AM and its been about 3 and a half hours since she went in. And last time she was there, the receptionist refused to give her a bus ticket or a slip for a cab fare to get her home. The service is nothing but a joke. Would NOT reccomend this place to ANYONE!
