Very disappointed from our stay.nnFirst, the good. The location is amazing. Close to downtown, right next to the river. Breathtaking views only minutes away. We could walk on the beach, or rake the kids to a very nice park right next to the hotel. The service was okay, though most staff said they were new and tended to make things up rather than get the correct information from someone. The room had a nice AndroidTV system which allowed us to stream from our phones seamlessly, though there was someone else's name on it . And the WiFi was decent, thiugh not great speeds.nnThe breakfast wasn't included, but it was good and decently priced. The dining room has a great biew on the river too.nnNow the bad parts... The bed weren't comfortable and the pillows too small. The AC unit didn't work properly, leaving the room temperature at a high 24° when it was asking 19° and it was impossible to change the asked temperature. The bathroom is very outdated, granted it's a historical building, but an effort could've been made to update de plumbing and/or ceramic. Even the shower head was in need of decalsifying.nnThere is basically no amenities, no pool or gym, the hotel restaurant was terrible, the burger burnt, the drinks watery, and it was expensive. The chairs were uncomfortable aluminum chairs, and the tables were simple folding black plastic tables.
Definitely a 3 star hotel, and your room does not include a complimentary breakfast. The TV did not connect to Netflix but we borrowed an HDMI cable to watch something other than cable. And the toilet paper was 1 ply. Otherwise nice rooms and beautiful views from the seaside.
First the good parts. The restaurant was pretty decent. We did the shrimp fettuccine and beef ravioli. The only complaint was they used mini cocktail shrimp which really brought the quality of the dish down. The prices were very fair though and so this is still a recommend for me.nnNow the bad. The room was absolutely the worst hotel room I've ever experienced in my entire life. The bathroom sink wasn't in the bathroom. The only soap was a despenser in the shower which again, in the other room. There is also basically zero sound insulation. It felt like you could hear every person talking upstairs and down and unfortunately someone on the upstairs floor must have decided they didn't like the way their room was organized and spent until about 11pm reorganizing the furniture. Came very close to just going to sleep in the car.nnSo, good place to eat but I wouldn't recommend actually staying here.
No heating in the room! We stayed one night in the middle of December and the room temperature was 10C!!! The heating is absolutely insufficient given the outside temperatures way below zero. We were supposed to heat with the air-conditioner. The room temperature then rose to 14C overnight.nWe had a little baby with us and we were all freezing!
We were really looking forward to this stay. However, upon entering our room, we noticed that the beds did not seem to be made well but didn’t think much of it. After just dropping off our luggage, we ventured out into town for dinner etc. Upon returning, my niece being in the washroom noticed that the towels on the rack had something on them. Upon closer inspection it turned out that all the towels on the rack were filthy & stained with things I don’t really want to detail. We went to the counter & the lovely lady at the front desk did try & address the issue. She mentioned that they were having issues with some cleaning employees. Upon reaching out to management, she offered a replacement room. Instead of a 2 bed room, we were given a studio with one king bed & a sofa bed. This was fine but there were absolutely no linens or pillows for the sofa bed. However, the friendly attendant did her best to provide & we managed for the night. We also attempted to have drinks & a bite at the Bistro in the hotel however we changed our minds when clearly the 6 waitresses that were there preferred to ignore us and just continue to chat amongst themselves the entire 20 minutes of us waiting at the table. The worst thing was that we were the only clients in the bistro at the time. This hotel has so much potential. Although being quite dated and in need of some serious TLC & renovations, it is beautiful located & possesses a castle like look & feel. I truly hope they address the issues.
