This supposed to be a four-star rating. But since I have been double charged on my debit card, and haven't got any refund in a month. We were there in the afternoon around 3, not too busy but taking a bit of wait time to get our order/food. The service was absolutely excellent! The cheese fondue was great, but it was a bit greasy as it's only bread dipped in cheese and there are only two of us. the hot rock BBQ is good, with a small portion tho. The other thing I loved about this place is the deco, vintage and country vibes, bears, moose, woody and rustic deco, every little detail filled with an eye for beauty, a great photo spot!
Our server made everything 10times better. British girl Jess? She was absolutely lovely and bubbly. Food was great and great! It was wayyy better than my expectations. My parents loved it!! Rib eye steak was my one pick and dessert was awesome
The appetizer Creme of Cauliflower soup was very flavourful and perfect and Salad was also very good. The dressing was home-made, paired with the fresh sald was very good. Our waiter Dan was very attentive as he refilled our water when needed. The vegetable fine do seems to have fermented before being cooked making it very tasty and very good. As an example The Onion was salted and fermented before being placed in the oil. The cheese fondue with wine inside is also very good. The main course was also very tasty. I suggest you to go with the hot plate instead of the oil. The Buffalo tasted spectacular, a lot different from the beef. The garlic butter to oil the pan was also very tasty when paired with the Lobster. Make sure not to put too much butter on the hot plate as the butter will splatter everywhere. The raspberry dessert jam was not too sweet, which when paired with the sweetness of the fresh fruits was very good. The only thing that bugs me is how expensive the dinner is. More expensive than eating at the top of Calgary Tower.
The Grizzly House was a must-do experience for your first time in Banff…however, the food itself is fairly lackluster. The good, as I mentioned, was the uniqueness of experience. Choosing what to order, sharing and exploring the fondues with your fellow guests and cooking or trying to with the provided hot plates. It was fun, the staff were great and it was very memorable. Now, the food itself seemed a bit overpriced, taste was underwhelming and portion sizes were small. For what we paid per person, we shared what seemed like pretty small portions of vegetable and cheese fondue… the starter Caesar salads were fairly bland, and the house tortellini soup served lukewarm. Following the starters and fondue, we received our 6-7 ounces of protein per person which felt quite minimal once served… but as I said, it was fun to cook and eat, so not a wasted experience by any stretch. We had made a reservation, but be prepared to wait until the exact minute your reservation begins. Understandable given the busy nature of the place, but something of note nonetheless, as we had been accustomed to being seated 5-10 minutes prior at most other restaurants. One tip I read that I was happy to have followed: skip your fancy clothes! Due to the hot plate cooking, our table and surroundings collected some cooking grease… nothing to bother us, but we were glad to have known this prior, and dressed accordingly! Thanks for a memorable experience! We had a good time - likely wouldn’t return, but grateful for it nonetheless.
Pricey but well worth it. You can get a good steak anywhere but this is a unique experience i say it's a must do in Banff! We had the complete fondue dinner it was so tasty. Started with house salad, the the cheese fondue with bread, seafood trio and beef+lobster on hot rock, finished with chocolate fondue with fruit and wafer cookies. Everything tasted delicious had to remind myself to save room for the next course. The main course is a bit small but with the other courses left perfectly satisfied.
I've personally never been here before, my friend recommended the place and after lastnight I understand why. Our server was Susan M. And she was the best server I've ever experienced. She was bubbly, personable, extremely knowledgeable, and all around she made our already amazing experience perfect. The restaurant serves wonderful dishes and I recommend you come in a group and try a little bit of everything. The decor of the restaurant gives it a very nice cozy, rustic atmosphere. We enjoyed the fondue but swapped out for hot rocks for our main entrees. As mentioned earlier, Susan M. Was fantastic and she anticipated our needs before we could even ask for a fresh hot rock she was offering to replace them. We tried the house cocktail, gin based, and it wasn't overly sweet but extremely flavourful. We also tried the 3rd tap brown local draft. I was expecting more of a honey brown but it was darker like a Guinness, which wasn't bad at all, but I definitely filled up a bit too much for it. Definitely recommend you choose lighter drinks, like the house cocktail.
Getting a table at Grizzly can be a bit tricky, we went there on a Wednesday evening and all tables in the interior dining room were fully booked, however the tables outside by the terrace are first come first serve, we got lucky and didn’t need to wait long before being seated. Overall the service was good, our waiter checked on us periodically and provided the necessary details to enjoy the dining experience, we went for the fondue option, which included an starter, appetizer, main course and a desert for the price of 57$. We cooked the food on a hot stone plate, which was a pretty cool concept. All in all the food was great, however portions are on the smaller side. When it comes to overall dining experiences in Banff, I would say this is my favourite, other restaurants I’ve visited during my stay are Chucks and Brazen, both of which were underwhelming and overpriced for what you are getting. If you are visiting and are undecided, I recommend checking this place out. Do remember to book ahead if you want to guarantee a spot.
The food was pretty good, a 4 course meal with the fondue experience. Soup or Salad, cheese or vegetable course, main course we opted for exotic and hunter and dessert. With Banff being Banff you can expect higher prices but this is all about the experience. We did a hot stone grill for the meat which was the better option less greasy. Our server was amazing, he was funny and food came out quick. Be sure to reserve well in advance for a table as it fills up quick.
If you are adventurous enough to try exotic meats like rattlesnake, alligator, frog legs , elk , kangaroo , venison ... Well then look no further... ! Loved the ambience, great service and the food experience was unforgettable. Only reason I didn't give them a 5* is the portion sizes. At approximately $60 per person , we were all hungry an hour later. But definitely a must visit place on your trip to Banff !
Came here on a Monday evening without making reservations but somehow managed to get seated for 2. All of the staff were so friendly, even though they had a full house and were extremely busy. Our server took time to explain how the fondue course dinner worked and what options they provided. We got the 4 course dinner option! -Starter: Chicken tortellini soup -Appetizer: Cheese fondue with bread. We added sauteed mushrooms for extra $ worth it! - Main: Beef and lobster cooked on a hot stone with garlic butter. My partner got the Hunter course Beef, Bison, Elk, Venison *get the hot stone instead of oil dip! -Dessert: Chocolate fondue with fruits and wafer cookies Our only suggestion would be to put the different types/cuts of meat on different plates. Our server explained the meats included for the Hunters main entree, but all the meats came out on one tiny plate and it became very confusing to remember what was what after we began cooking it on the hot stone. The stone only stays hot for a short amount of time, so we felt pressured to cook all our meats quickly totally understandable, but that's how we got our meats confused too Overall, it was a really fun time bc neither my partner and I had tried fondue before! I'd definitely make a reservation for next time, but I'd love to come again
