High security place! Going inside makes me feel like going abroad. You need to reserve first online. Otherwise, you are hard to enter this building. The security has a lot of people. The window has a lot to finish your work. Moreover, the seat has a lot to let you wait inside.
No real complaints. Be prepared for airport-style security- leave your pepper spray at home! I showed up around 40 minutes before they opened and was fourth in line. It was a short wait once we were allowed inside.
So many bad reviews but I had a great experience. I was there on a Wednesday morning and was out in 10 minutes. Very few people, the woman that helped me was very nice and helpful. I definitely recommend coming here.
For anyone changing their name after marriage: Arrive 40 minutes before they open, at least. There will already be a line, but it'll be small I was 4th in line at 8:35am on a Tuesday. They opened the doors almost a full 15 minutes early. Security was very kind and pleasant. TSA level security, you can't have any mace on the grounds, so leave it at home. Once you get in, you check in at a kiosk and will receive a number. Make sure you fill out your SS-5 form in advance, though they do have them once inside. I waited maybe 5 minutes once checked in before being called. I was a walk-in, no appointment. Entire time once inside was maybe 20 minutes, max. The worker who took care of me was named Miss Hardman, I think--she was wonderful. Friendly which seems rare in a gov't office! Make sure to have your previous SS card if you have it, a passport/valid state ID, and your certified marriage license. If it's in a foreign language like mine was, make sure you have it professionally translated.
Not possible to make an appointment as they do not make appointments for all services. You'll find it out only after having spent an hour on the phone to be able to speak with a real person. So you have to wait in line and then in the waiting area the whole day. Very rude service. Very slow. They don't care about other people's time. If you are on unemployment, it's your place to go since you have all time in the world.
Very polite managers provided proper information quickly
I am helping my father with his Medicare application post-submission document check since he is working in a foreign country at the moment. Some similar feedback to others- You HAVE to have an appointment to enter, but you are not able to make an appointment on the phone because they are having a difficult time picking up calls with staffing shortages. I had no choice but to come on site to see if I can make an appointment after calling and holding for hours at a time for an entire week. The security folks here for some reason felt the need to treat you like you owe them money. I had take the time out of my work day since the office is closed at 4 pm to help work through this very strenuous application process just to get some snarky comment from the security.
Very clean building, kind security, straight to the point employees. If you have an appointment the process is swift. I was in and out in under 30 minutes.
Called consistently for about three weeks and never got through to a person. Finally, when I did, they mentioned that there is a dropbox inside and you can just leave your forms there, then come pick them back up when complete. Would have been great to know a month ago! I recommend leaving your info in the dropbox with your contact information on it. Also, I went to pick up the forms after they called me back and I was turned away because they were "closed" at about 12:45pm. Nowhere does it state that they close for the lunch hour which was very frustrating. Happy to be done with this place!
My original documents - foreign passport and marriage certificate have NOT been returned to me post processing of my name change application SS5!! Please help. I recently went into this location to request a last name change post-marriage. I was asked to return with an appointment even after I mentioned that I had tried to get one several times but couldn’t reach anyone on the phone. When I finally got hold of someone on the phone, they told me that I would just need to mail in my original passport which I HAD to send since I’m not a US citizen, marriage certificate and the SS-5 form. My application was processed in 2 weeks’ time and I received an updated SSN card. However, my original passport document and the marriage certificate have not been returned to the mailing address. It has been 4-5 weeks now and I’ve checked with the office many times. I’ve been told there’s no tracking number to see where the documents could be. My passport includes my visas - if lost, I’ll have to go back to the original countries to replace. I’m extremely disappointed and feeling helpless from the runaround. Update: Ms. Scott helped me track track the documents. You’ve saved me so much trouble. Thank you!!
