Église Unie Saint-James

Story

Saint James United Church is a heritage church in downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is a Protestant church affiliated with the United Church of Canada. It is located at 463 Saint Catherine Street West between Saint Alexandre and City Councillors Streets, in the borough of Ville-Marie. It was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1996.The Gothic Revival church was designed by Montreal architect Alexander Francis Dunlop. It is noteworthy for its false apse housing church offices and for its Casavant Frères organ.HistoryWhen it was built in June 1889, it was the largest Methodist church in Canada, with 2,000 seats; it was nicknamed the "Cathedral Church of Methodism." It now belongs to the United Church of Canada, into which the Canadian Methodists merged in 1925. Its congregation founded the first YMCA in North America on November 25, 1851 (before the present church building was built) and led an active campaign for women's suffrage early in the 20th century.

Tonight I visited this magnificent church for a charity concert " Music Of Hungary".As if it wasn't grandious enough to enjoy the fantastic performance of very talented artists, the experience was even more enjoyable because of the great acoustic and surrounding. Well chosen location for the maximum enjoyment.Bravo !
This haven of peace and inclusion is welcomed in any cities. Here un Montreal we can benefit from St. James open arms in times of crises or simply when life throws us a curve. The minister and his congregation have helped so many in need already through the outreach programs.
Very cool stop on my summer trip to Montreal. I just happened to be there during Fierté Montréal so the excitement was higher and it was very cool to see everyone being so cordial to everyone, even with me being from Texas :
Wish they open more often they have a beautiful church
Beautiful structure! First time inside and found it was well suited for the speaking engagement we attended.
Beautiful old church with a lovely, warm and very welcoming congregation. Visit in early December to enjoy their Christmas benefit concert, a real treat!
A beautiful, old and well kept Place of God. Those of us with this type of inclination should enter and worship for awhile. We said a prayer for our parents and others who have passed along lighting a candle for them before we went on our way.
Beautiful church reminded be of growing up in South Wales.
One of the most welcoming churches in Montreal ! Open to all who wish to visit or attend Sunday service at 11am ! Plus coffee hour to meet and share with others ! Come and enjoy !
